The body design of Xperia TX was developed by SE as can be evidenced by this.
And, as far as I understood about the Lund team announcements, the designers their are losing their jobs not moving to Japan. The design work is probably going to go to the same Sony design teams for things like Vaio and Walkman. The Lund software workers are carrying on as usual in Lund optimising software. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@mediar I mean this in the nicest possible way and with the utmost respect. You are sounding like a broken record. 3 years ago I read every one of your posts in this thread, now I don't because they all look the same.

@Ricky D
Yes you're right, the T and TX were designed and developed by . There were prototypes ready of the T/TX in October 2011.

The front looks really good and proportional compared to the T (the upper part looks so narrow) and V (the distance between the earspeaker, Sony Logo, and the screen is a waste of space)
If only Sony maintained the front part, combined with the current design for the side and back of the phone, it'll be the most beatiful phone i've ever seen
edit: oh, TX has this design

@Mediar,
Well 2013 is not that far away, more over 2012 devices are I think already over? So why dont you wait for a while and see maybe you like those instead?
I think both the nxt and arc series are well differentiated from other manufacturers already.
@ Aurelius,
I do like the nxt design, but one of the drawbacks I find is that it makes the phone much more longer than it needs to be.

Thanks for the correction Aurelius
And yes NXT design is really nice
Also @Djin, there is no way Mediar will like 2013 or 14 or any year design cuz he simply hates Sony because he's a racist. |

@randomuser (and others) there's no need for name calling. mediar is entitled to his opinion and he's entitled to express it here without being slaughtered, we're open minded individuals. It's just unnecessary to repeat oneself repeatedly which I think mediar (again, and others) is guilty of recently.
Let's not bash. Especially each other.
Note: Bashing of Apple and their 3 generation copy and paste design which they copied from Sony (2006) or their absolutely ludicrous law suit against Samsung for copying, I'm completely fine with here.

I too love the NXT design - I'm using the XS. The white body and the light-bar is just so beeeautiful with the brightness mod installed. Hopefully they are more brave on the design of the light bar on the next NXT series. Maybe just the exact same XS with edge to edge 4.6-8 inch and light bar v.2 and i'll be grateful.
The TX also looks very clean and elegant. But why did Sony choose the T as the poster child ??? - they have the same specs but T is uglier? I don't think James Bond would choose the T over the TX.
I find it looks awful beside the TX with the unnecessary sloped chin on the front bottom, cluttered with buttons on the side/back bottom and kills the arc curve. It looks more like a HTC level of design than a Sony.
Also, anyone have any official word from Sony why they released so many identical phones for 2012?? |

+1 I'd like to know that as well. It has never happened before and I'd like to know the exact reasons for that radical change! As I said earlier, this is not the I used to love and I clearly see Sony's influence here, even though you all deny it! Moreover:

So when Apple releases three identical phones in a row in three different years, they deserve to be bashed for lack of innovation. But when Sony releases 20+ twin phones in only one year, uglier than any iPhones far, its called "series" and they get praised for that! Any explanation?

Maybe they thought flooding the market with many models (like Samsung) will mean a wider range of choice for consumers (and operators) to choose from & will translate into more sales. I think this is definitely better for the consumer.

@mediar
You need get your eyes checked. Yes 2012 Xperia phones are part of a series but each one is unique in many ways even though you won't admit it. Only a fool will say the Xperia S looks like the T or Tipo or Sola or Go or J. You got no better job to do than bashing Sony for FAKE reasons ?
Also in case you didn't read the article on Verge yday, the Xperia Arc design that you praise so much is a Sony design, designed by a Japanese

Ok, convince me:
The fact that the 2012 Xperias were designed by the same design team, which designed the 2011 Xperias means nothing. It just shows that they've run out of ideas and need to be replaced. So Sony needs to start the 2013 with firing the current design team and getting new people with fresh ideas.

Do you think everyone on this forum is an idiot ? The only reason all the 2012 phones look the same in this pic (even the tablets) is because all the pictures are in the same angle, have the same black color, have the same homescreen and on top of that pics are so tiny that naturally all of them look the same.
Now compare that with the 2011 portfolio pics have different colors, different homescreens and different angles.
Why don't you post large size photos of all 2012 phones and prove they all look the same ? |

Given the circumstances of SE-Sony, I'm pretty sure the only reason is because the Sony wanted to flush out all the SE products that were in the pipeline, get them out there and start with a clean slate for 2013, both financially and materially.
From an accounting perspective that makes sense if they can control themselves not to do this anymore in the near future.
But, do you believe Sony understands the simplified products model like Apple's? Seems a mixed bag...
Viao laps- has 4 lines Z/E/S/T, E&S are the same crappy stuff no one cares about, they could definitely cut that down and improve the remaining models in terms of build materials and pricing. There is currently not 1 reason to get a Viao over a Macbook other than OS preference.
Nex/Alpha- 4 Nex models and a few more Alphas, clearly differentiated, class leading, looks good
Bravia - 4 lines again, 1 line is clearly garbage and out priced by LG/Vizio with little differentiation and the business is not even making money.
Well being as conservative as Sony is, I don't think they can go full on simplification like Apple because they further have management, sales and distribution problems but hopefully 2012 is as bad as it gets for Sony Mobile.
What are you thoughts

To be fair, changing a design for one phone every 12months is an easy task. Doing it for 20 phones a year is obviously going to be more difficult.
