The review of the XZ2 was pretty accurate, the issues that they picked up are exactly what the mainstream consumers would complain about. While you could argue that the XZ2 camera is the best, it's not a clear winner so it sits in the top bracket. Samsung Galaxy cameras have forever been consistently excellent so the average Joe wouldn't think twice about buying one. Sony needs to build up their reputation.
Also the design, I agree that while it looks alright it's still a bit dated, totally agree that midrange devices have more modern designs. |

Samsung is not as good as ppl think.
It is hard to compare photos because everyone just uses auto.
Phones are using different settings.
Set same ISO and SS then Sony and HTC provide better images than Samsung or LG.
Also if you scale all to same resolution, things get worse for Sammy.
Ppl compare a shot of S8 ISO 500 against XZ1 ISO 1400, of course the lower ISO will be cleaner and more detailed.
I doubt at ISO 1400 the S8 would do better than XZ1.
Also 25mm against 26mm, easier to see details when subject is " closer".
Check what ppl choose when any site performs blind tests.
Most of ppl vote for bright / warm colors.
S7 has the worse WB on auto I have ever seen on flagships. Too warm tones.
White, green and gray are easily brought to yellow side.

I think it is because people most likely will use auto rather than manual. Samsung, Pixel, and others has much better software (especially when compared to 2017 flagship Xperias), they tend to make pictures noiseless and blurless, their phones has OIS, too. Sony have improved their software and algorithms recently (with XZ2 line, their mid range and low end models are still crappy), along with the new Spectra 280 ISP. If the phones use the same settings with manual mode, of course Sony will be the best out of all of those phones.

Since XA got imx300, they do better than Galaxy A and Moto Z Play.
Maybe better than XZs.
I got shocked to see how bad samples from Moto G6+ are.

Yeah, but I feel like even with IMX214, they could optimise the software to make the camera works much better. With great software, even Z1 would be stacking up well against today's phones.
XZs uses IMX400 too, right?

@spektykles
How about B.O.S.S (Balanced Optical Steadyshot) and Super Top Emission tech for OLED in near future?

XZs has motion eye, but all sites said results were not same of XZP.
Gsmarena tool, XA2 samples look better than XZs.

It says someone saw the screen of next premium.
That would be 4K OLED 18:9.
Screen uses 85% of the front.

I really hope the PRO model or the premium line still has the 16: 9, 18:9 is so frustrating, especially if you want to see a movie by Christopher Nolan... |

There's no such thing as a pro model. That rumour seems bogus, though, just like any other rumours from that website that came from fanboys' dream.

Unless Sony pull rabbit out of the hat in upcoming IFA trade show
I'm afraid this 10th anniversary that I put them in my priority upgrade may come to an end.
It had been 10 years of waiting them to shine, and recently I begin to feel little more fed up with their move.

I don't know maybe some kind of anxiety

Looks like sony lost one more marketing source as they won't be involved in next bond movie since universal has the rights now |

good for sony, it's pathetic to pay 200 million dollars to one actor for the movie...

Utilize that sum for a good commercial which will attract viewers attention and want to buy. |
