Anyone elses Expansys order been dispatched via DHL? Must admit this is a first - they've always used Royal Mail Special Delivery before.

I haven't had a dispatched email either, but the order status page has now updated with DHL tracking information.

Yes £ relates to British Sterling.

@ sleepyhead could it be to do with Royal Mail only insuring upto £250 so they might use a "higher courir" or to do with DHL collecting til late in the evening as they look to sell out of the phones by this evening?

Hmm tis strange mate, mines still saying royal mail special delivery as shipping info..well according to my order tracker page.

Btw royal mail special delivery, you can insure packages up to £2500 for a small fee if you like. But i think most items are insured for £500 standard.

even though i cancelled my order with mphone, according to my bank the payment is still pending! which caused my expansys order to be declined as just had enough in the account for the p990!
bloody mphone! luckily ive got a credit card,so i just put it on that.but i wont be happy if the money comes out for mphone too(according my bank it could take a few days to drop off my account, but i cancelled my order on the 10th!)

Hmmm interesting there Dicky, i cancelled my order this morning with them...rung them and they said to send an email which i did. About a hr ago i got a confirmation email saying they have cancelled the order off their system.
I hope they havent charged me £540 or at least i hope it hasnt gone through yet.

I can provide an explanation here as I just had a fraud prevention call from HSBC due to "large online spending" on my card over the last couple of days - one of the things they wanted to confirm was mphone in addition to Expansys (and Clove.co.uk for the HTC TyTN I ordered). I queried mphone saying that I cancelled the order, but was told I'd need to speak to them personally.
So I phoned mphone and the explanation is that when you authorise your card through their Protx payment gateway it automatically "earmarks" funds against your card although technically it doesn't actually charge you. Mphone confirmed my order was cancelled and said the "earmarked" funds would automatically return onto my card balance either today or tomorrow.
Personally I think its a dubious practice as despite them saying "we haven't actually debited your card" as far as I and my card company are concerned the money has gone since it is no longer available on my card. Will keep an eye on it however over the next couple of days...

hi all,

I happen to be working in credit card industry... may be I can offer explanation for this. This is what is normally called 'pre-authorization'. normally happen in hotel during check-in, but also used in online shopping nowadays.

You will not be charged/billed for this kind of transaction, but this kind of transaction will block that amount from your credit limit to ensure you have enough credit to make purchase, until bank release it, or will be automatically released after certain period (normally 1 week).

in order for the merchant to confirm this kind of transaction, they will need to submit another transaction, called: offline authorization (which is using the authorization code provided during pre-authorization). This offline transaction will knock off the blocking amount and charge you accordingly.

So, even though you have cancelled your purchase, it is still possible that your credit limit has not been restored to original limit, although you will not be billed anymore for this.
