They seem to be differentiating speed and smoothness there. I think with smoothness they're probably referring to how quickly the phone reacts to touch commands and the smoothness of the animations and interface. With speed to load apps and browse the web, yeah the Xperias are second to none. |

It's pretty clear they're not just talking about speed. If it were speed they would easily be able to say so by talking about opening apps and browsing the web. Here's what they say:

They don't seem to know how to put it into words, but another way if say it would also probably be the snappyness of the phone. It's smooth, responsive, snappy... whatever you want to call it. I don't see that part being an issue, they just notice a level of smoothness on Pixels that other Android manufacturers haven't been able to attain but apparently the XZ2 is the closest. |

I have seen many reviewers over hyping the pixels for no obvious reasons.
Sony are currently the fastest and most responsive phones on the market...
Check any youtube video comparison or whatever
Or do a real life comparison of your own..
Snappiness, smoothness or whatever sony is the best...
Xperia UI is very stock like but it differs in many aspects
It has the speed and responsiveness but with added functionalities..
For me sony has the best overall UI experience in the android world
Samsung is the most feature rich but it lacks the speed and responsiveness
Lg is somewhat of a middle ground between the two
Htc is somewhat like sony
But i dont find the ui interesting
This is from my personal experiences with these flagships

Since 4K@60 require a shorter shutter speed and higher iso, inevitably there is a degradation in the quality of the image and more noise.
That is with OIS, with EIS is worse. |

Hell, XZ2 even beats Pixel 2 XL in speed. Sony have got everything except marketing and good sales.
Yeah, I like Sony's UI so much (sure, it is because I am a Sony fan). Stock Android is just.. Too stock, Samsung's UI is a bit slow and I feel like in a couple of years, the phone would get pretty slow (I have some experiences with Samsung phones/tablets, but since Galaxy S8, they've improved their UI's stability a bit).

I am very disappointed.
Why not just do it after using?
Now Samsung will have all credits and make ppl believe they created the tech.

After using what? Just because they've done it on TV doesn't mean it's as doable on mobile. I have yet to hear an explanation of how touching the screen won't kill all the audio immediately.
Also, just because there are patents doesn't mean they'll be in an actual product anytime soon. Plus even if somehow, someway someone finds a way to do acoustic surface on mobile without the mere act of touching the screen screwing it up, Samsung getting some patents doesn't mean Sony couldn't do it. |

So is it likely we'll see faster innovation now that Sony have realised they have been too slow in improving their product lineup?
Also what are the expectations for IFA? I don't mean a wish list/what people want to see, but what are we likely (or even guaranteed) to see? Presumably any speed up in improving their product line will be slightly longer term... |

My point is ...
Sony uses oled from LG on A1E. But image is very different due to better processing.
If they licence AS to LG is okay, because they are already using it.
But they decide to allow Samsung to use on cellphones if they dont even say they want on own phones.
Samsung would not buy it just to keep stanby for years until they find a way to implement.
It is different of patents. You are protecting your idea from being stolen.
Does not mean you have to use it.
