A bird whispered in my ear that the N90 has been spotted around Cape Town...the phone has been delayed on both networks due to some compatibily issues... This is weird because the phone has been heavily advertised on tv the last couple of weeks.

Started playing a game called Townsmen yesterday. Bloody addictive, reminds me a bit of Warcraft, The Sims, etc.

Hello everybody A quick correction Brix. The P800 wasn't on the market 3years ago.Althou SE used to sound the trumpet about 3 and a half years ago only managed to launch it after the lucrative christmas '02 (i.e. january '03) 3years ago the 7650 was the only smart cell in SA.

@mario2002: Three years ago I can recall an excited WirelessMonkey running into Cape Argus newsroom to show off his P800...ok, it should be said the phone was released later in SA but it had been available worldwide in Q4 2002.

A few hours after my last post i still couldn't fall asleep, so i took a drive out to the beachfront to watch the sunrise.

Upon returning i came across an incident in which 4 guys were assaulting a youngster, less than 2km from a police station and ambulance depot. The judicious application of boots and a few well-aimed blows sent them running, although i rather think it was the presence of my 9mm which helped. Assisted by an angel disguised as a young white teenager i applied a pressure dressing to the worst of his wounds, i.e. stabbing in the kidneys. Her boyfriend was having a fit because she was helping somebody of different hue (WTF??? It's 2005!!!) until i asked him to *censored* off and rather call an ambulance. The upshot is that after 45min of waiting his parents arrived sans ambulance. It transpired that he'd been en route home from a club when he was waylaid by guys in the taxi in which he was travelling. Also turned out his dad and i were colleagues a whopping 16years ago. Betcha old Sam was never as happy to see me as this morning...

Motive for the robbery and near-fatal assault: Nokia 1100.

Have a peaceful weekend, guys.
I'm not superstitious, merely mildly stitious.

@Kryptik Welcome to the 'new south africa' thanks God I am on leave as of today (till the 16 dec) and be carefull with that gun, remember a very high percentage of youth is armed ! ! ! The criminals do not know when you pull your gun are you only going to treaten or shot, so they shot first !
@Brix SE launched the P800 in January 2003. Do a google search to refresh your memory if you don't believe me.I waited for moths to buy a P800 and when I could wait no more ended up with a 7650.Now as a after thought I think I am better off. After all SE has stopped the 'real' Pxx as of last year. The P990 is only a 'P' with the name.Is incompatible on every other respect.(screen resolution included) Sad but unfortunately true.

@ mario,
I have not forgotten about your S60 stuff that I accumulated at the Smartphone Show.
My nephew leaves for SA on Friday and your stuff is all ready to go in a big padded envelope.
The stuff should be with you next week.
Will be sent via Postnet to the P.O. box you PM'd to me.
Let me know when it arrives.

I'm not fighting with mario2002 about the release date of the P800.
Damn, just say the trailer of King Kong...it looks brilliant.

Indeed,Dr_Thug.
We were out-played today.Simple as that.
The SA team's 20 ODI games-unbeaten spree was ended quite emphatically.
There wasn't even need for Dhoni's explosive batting antics in Bangalore.
Congrats.

Hey there Everyone. Some crazy stuff happening in this world rite now. I know, coz I'm a med student and see stuff in the hospital all da time. Anyway, just when I thought SE were losing out to Nokia, I went out and got my mum a SE V600i on contract...free on family top up. Well I'm completely blown away!!!! People go out and buy the Nokia 6230i and miss out on one of the finest mobiles on the market right now.
This is ONE AMAZING mobile phone.
Here's some amazing discoveries I made:

1. The Screen is awesome. It far outclasses my K700i and most other phones on the market rite now. It's bright, and brilliant. It's covered by what seems to be a thick layer of perspex which is an awesome solution as it's practically scratch resistant.

2. The build quality on this phone is the best I've ever felt. No squeeks, no creaks and the buttons are comfortable to use. Joystick is very solid. It oozes class. Awesome design feature is the little glitter around the screen in the black portion. You have to feel it and see it to appreciate it.

3. VodaFone Live is actually a nice feature to have, contrary to what some may think. WAP is completely FREE and so is OPERA MINI. It's lightning fast on 3g and the phone supports streaming. I've tested everything and it works flawlessly. Donloading a file of 1.5 mb takes about 20 seconds and it's FREE!!!

4. Video Dj - this is such a cool feature...u can trim ur video clips, add text, add background music. It's amazing if u enjoy photography as much as I do.

5. The camera is strictly OK. Low light yields poor results. Nifty little feature is the camera shutter which activates the camera irrespective of whether the phone is locked or not. Pictures in natural light are really good and look crystal clear on the PC.

6. The Picture Viewer has an awesome feature where u can zoom in 32x and save the zoomed portion as a seperate picture. You can also set a picture to be maximized to occupy the entire screen in standby mode (wallpaper).

7. Games and applications run smoothly and even has a feature to minimize. When running Mxit and it's Minimized, you still receive the alert when u receive a message. How COOL is that!!!

8. The new Activity Menu is great. It is a tabbed menu with NEW EVENTS, My Shortcuts, and BOOKMARKS. When Mxit is minimized, it appears in this menu as well. The menus are super cool with animations everywhere.

9. The call quality is superb. It is crytal clear!!! The volume is more than sufficient and my mum even commented on how clear it is and that coming from a Nokia 3100.

10. The phone is STABLE (touch wood). No crashes and unpleasant experiences.

The only downside of this phone is the memory is limited to about 32 mb I think. This is more than sufficient if you don't use it as an mp3 player and my mum sure as hell isn't gonna use it to listen to music. I'm super impressed.

Anyway, hope u enjoyed the review. Can't take pictures coz I'm posting from a crap old dialup and it'd take forever to upload.

Cheers

If all else fails,read the.....

BTW,thanks for the quite comprehensive review.

@ jitesh,
thanks, that was more than likely my fault for not reading properly, although that one sentence seemed a bit ambiguous.
Thanks for clarifying.
The V600i indeed has a limitation of 32 megs.
Brix also had an opportunity of fiddling with one of these handsets some time back too, courtesy of a well-connected Monkey Man,I think.
