recently i've read some rumours that Sofia unfortunately won't have
HSDPA, Wi-Fi, and will only record 15 FPS video (even if QVGA)
how likely is this to be true?

honestly, these were the features that made it worth for me to wait for Sofia; without them i think sofia would be much, much less future-proof.

if they are not going to be there, than what is the point of buying sofia instead of k800/k810 ? especially since chances are that sofia is going to cost like 150$ more than k810..

BTW, sorry for offtop, but can anyone say if the mp3 player in walkman
phones is better than in k800/ k810? (in terms of sound quality, not in terms of features)
Also, is there any other phone with a 3.2mp camera which is about as good as k800? (i know there is N73, but its like 100$ more expensive, so it doesnt count for me)

yeah, as i mention before.
Sofia will be another dissapointment.
Somehow tech never meets my expectation, become lousy in the terms of tech. implementation. Maybe its okay for many people, but for a gadget freak(like me) its a sad thing. every new phone launched theres nothing new to try

maybe my prediction is true that " is trully king of low/mid end phone"

I don't think it's possible that Sofia won't have HSDPA, that would be the dumbest move SE ever made.
Sofia most likely wont have Wi-Fi, but I'm hoping that it will have normal video, however SE dissapointed us with bad video many times now...

why would it b dumb for SE not to have HSDPA in Sofia or the K800i update???

I can understand why it would b dumb not to have it in any PDA style handsets that ppl will use the net on for downloading items or progs off but on standard 'dummy' type handsets why the need??? 3G is perfectly quick for pics, vids, sounds, themes and games!

I don't understand, how would be the main idea about the new UI.
The first pic. is from mobileburn, it looks like a live pic, but the second is from SonyEricsson, and it is an official one.

-the first pic suggests that the central key=select the right one=back left=options and the C remains and appears two useless keys the call /end call keys
-the second pic suggests that the softkeys function remained the same left=central=select right=options, the end call=back, the C remained, and appeared just one useless key, the call key.

I would prefer much the second version, because the only change would be that the end call key became the back, and it moves to the left side... the first version remembers everyone to nokia style, and would be a little bit major change.

I don't believe that the spy photos of Sofia would be real. The date from them (2006 dec) advertises at least that it can't be the final appearance. However I think that the keys don't express any major change of the interface.

Just remember in recent models how functionned the keys when you called somebody. You call with the left softkey, end the call with the right softkey. So I think the only change would be that the back and C keys will not be under but besides of the two softkeys. The softkeys are not signed with lines, only appears the second funcion of them, to start and to end a call.

So I mean something like this:

and it would be correct... the main function is the softkey function (select and options in the most of cases) signed on the screen and the second function (call/ end call) signed on the keys too, because a lot of people was displeased that not appears any call/ end call keys on SE models...

Don't be silly. What can you tell from that screen?

If you were to see that screen of the K750i and that same screen of the K610i, it looks identical, but being a user of both, I can say that the software on the K610i is far more advance than that of the K750i.

It's like looking at the old and the new face lifted BMW 5 series. They look almost the same but under the hood the new one is a totally new beast.

You have the same hopes as me. I also hope Elena will have GPS too. If it doesn't, I won't buy it.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Nobody said it's a new UI (interface per se), it's only a system platform that is so modified that a lot of people call it "new", it has so much more potential than the original one especially when it comes to multi java implementation, just takes time for the developers to write new programs and abuse what the platform can now do

and more on button arrangements. the live pic on mobileburn shows a new system that is closer to what Japanese SE phone buttons were aligned like

S_______S
____^____
__<___>___
YES_V__NO
__________
M____C___M
1____2____3
4____5____6
7____8____9

3 more buttons, with the C button directly underneath the D-pad, and the other 2 that can be customized and branded (vodafone Live!, Hutchison3 Portal etc, plus one multimedia/multitask button)

this is the same arrangement used by 90% of Japanese domestic phones 2 years ago, and it's something that a lot of people in the company have been fighting for so many years. however, the Japanese have already switched again, this time moving the dial and hang up buttons even lower to right above the alphanumeric keys, and moving the customizable internet/multimedia buttons above them

S_______S
____^____
__<___>___
M___V___M
__________
YES__C__NO
1____2____3
4____5____6
7____8____9

and to transform to this, might take another 3 years before an average non-Japanese use more mobile internet, i.e. when you dial you dial and focus on the lower half of the keypad, when you want to browse, it shouldnt require you to type much (i.e. the portal is well-established enough, which vodafoneLIVE is still quite poorly organized unfortunately)

the screen on the official pic is a typical Hamekomu-cut&paste, Live screens are usually more authentic.

Well, isn't that what themes are for then? To give your UI a different look if that is all you are after that is cosmetic changes and not improved usability, stability and so on.

If that's the case you're most likely one of those who would move to Windows Vista.. lol... but this is getting OT.

But I can see where you're coming from. Maybe they should give an option for users to customise the icons of the menu or more choices with the 'layout'. They already did a good job with the clock view mode and the picture browsing screen.
