Mom is 21 years older then her child. 6 years later the child will be 5x younger then his mom.

Now the question is, where is the father.

It's not that hard to solve this.

IF 5x menas 5 times then, There is no father

the mom(M) is 21 yrs older than the child (C), that means
M = C+21

after 6 yrs the mom is five time older than the child:
M+6 = 5 (C+6)
M+6= 5C +30
M= 5C +24

USING THE FIRST EQUATION:
C +21 = 5C +24
-4C = 3

THERFORE THE CHILD AGE IS = -3/4 which is impossible.....therefore not born yet..

Right?

@anish, hope I'm not too late again. Assuming the books are tightly packed in the shelf and he was only able to wiggle through (not eat) to the cover of the first book then he ate through 14 cms of the books. The worm couldn't wiggle through the covers in the middle so he has to eath through them. He only left the front cover of the first volume and the back cover of the 4th volume.

Edit: @elrond, they're still making the baby at the moment so the father is very close by. (probably on top or below the mom )

hmmm.. I think there need to be a bit of clarification the books are on a bookshelf beside each other quite close, that is no measurable space in between but not very tightly packed meaning if the worm wants he can wiggle in an out as said in the riddle. So I am afraid your answer of 14 cm is wrong as well.

This is a very straight forward riddle the only thing is you have to visualise the whole scenario to answer this riddle.
