Hello

To re-iterate :

Handset and WAP gateway negotiate limit on download. Trust me on this. Now, it was initially thought that T68i would have limitations removed in the browser so it could pull through payloads over 3 Kb ( T68m was limited ), but I have seen NO evidence of this. In fact, on gateways that I KNOW can negotiate higher limits ( let's take vodafone's as an example ), the T68i has been happy to stay at it's 3 Kb. I know this, because I had a test server set up to test EXACTLY this issue ( which is why I decided to reply ).

I have also used handsets that will negotiate up to the limit ( in practice ) of about 8 Kb.

So, as I pointed out in my last post, there is an issue with the handset AND the gateway, usually the handset is the limiter, but in the cases where it is not, then the gateway usually comes in at about 8 Kb.

Hope this answers the question

No I don't train staff at benjy's although I am rather partial to their wicked sandwiches

noooooooooooo

no way - banjytrainer m8 where do u get this info from !?

not 2 b a bastard here but how the fcuk did u set up your own wap parameters unless u actually wrk for network development for vodafone !?!?

the stuff ya say bout wap gateways bein limited yeh ya spot on etc

but the handset issue !! no !!

the handset has no issue with the size, the size limitations r put in place by the network operators, you can get larger permissions if u wish form them but by in large the standard limit is 3 kb !!

ill post the tech-speak network report if needs b 2 bk this up !!

benjy this aint a personal dig but just let it go the handset dont have a limity wit incoming file sizes, it has no influence on the WAP parameters as they are set in place within the infrastructure if the network !!

handset no

network yes

solutoin ring ya operator ask 4 larger wap data acees, they derestrict u, nuff sed.

true.

OK just talked to the Voda technical experts and after some call-holding and consultation and general not knowing what I'm talking about they told me that the 3kb data limit could NOT be increased at the moment! No doubt a different person would have a different answer but I give up on it to be honest!

I think I'm going to have to get a cable or live with it!

Actual quote from the help section of the O2 website (I was searchin for info on data limits) >

"Can I download Ringtones and Icons via WAP?

Downloads via WAP

Can I download icons/ringtones over WAP?

No, WAP mobile phones do not have a download facility but you can download using GPRS. Go to www.O2.co.uk/shop to find out more about our GRPS tariffs. "

Hmmm wap phones don't have a download facility, I must be imagining all the pics and ringtones on my T68mi then!

Hello

By my reckoning, only one person here has an issue with the answers I posted.

Anyhow, again for those hard of reading, phone and wap gateway will negotiate. Lower of the two limit is imposed.

And Voda can handle a limit higher than 3 Kb, I know this because I pulled through image of 5 and 6 Kb. But not with a T68.

I am not going to tell you which phone, or how and why I was doing this, and frankly, whether you choose to believe this is not is your own thing.

You can also post all the tech-reports you want, but some of us work in the industry ( and have done for years ) and some of us don't. Enough said I think.

Now, if anyone wants to prove that you can pull through a payload greater than 3 Kb with a T68, then cool, go ahead. I am happy to be proved wrong that T68 can - but using the voda gateway, which will pass over 6 Kb, T68 ( note, that's the PHONE there ) clips back to 3 Kb.

And at any rate, practicality of the situation is no stuff over 3 Kb - therefore cable ( DRS-11 ) or IrDA is a good solution, and AGAIN, cheaper over the long run. Plus you can use the other software that's available to sync your data and hence back it up for you.

By the way shibby, you may want to upgrade your firmware at some point ...

benjytrainer,

do you have the MMS upgrade? can you store more than one pic in your phone?

many users in the non UK forum are able to download larger than 3KB -
why would this be if they have the same phones and software?

also, i'm able to send screensavers from my phone larger than 3KB, give me your email address if you want an example.

as far as i'm concerned the 3KB download limit IN MY CASE is due to my service provider and not my phone...not sure where you've got this info from but after first reading it appears wrong.

Hello

The limitation is :

i n t h e w a p b r o w s e r

phew.

there are no limits for email or use via the datacable etc, or else I wouldn't be suggesting it

If someone would like to suggest a firmware combination and operator-gateway combo that they think they can browse WAP with and pull in over 3 Kb payloads, fire away.

Certainly R2B025 was not very happy about it, haven't bothered to test R2E006 purely because THE DATACABLE ( or any other local method ) of sending is

a) quicker
b) easier
c) cheaper

Ultimately, I am not fussed whether people believe this or not, because having done the tests across most of europe with a number of phones, I already KNOW what the situation is.

Confusing the sh*t out of me! I just can't understand if that is the case why half of Esato 'appear' to be able to download files over 3kb via WAP on their T68's - although not in the UK?

BTW I've got R2E006 on Voda and I still can't do it.

ShibbyLicious> quote "ill post the tech-speak network report if needs b 2 bk this up !!"

Can you post it??

Anyway everyone lets chill out and enjoy the good weather whilst we've got it!

Enjoy your weekend!
