Apparently there Z Line is dead.

EDIT: Maybe, maybe not
UPDATE: 15:33 PM, February 22
A Sony spokeswoman contacted AndroidPIT this afternoon to retract the original statement. The spokeswoman said the country manager who told AndroidPIT Italy that Xperia's Z line would be dropped had mistakenly revealed product roadmap details. The spokeswoman also said Sony would not publicly discuss the roadmap at this stage.
The either means that the information we were given earlier is incorrect or not officially confirmed. You can read the original story below.
Sony SEM (South Eastern Mediterranean) Country Manager Augusto Zumbo told AndroidPIT that the company has decided to carry out a "silent" rebranding, changing its Z line to the X line. The Sony Xperia X Performance is the new flagship in this range.

Probably true. Just like I said a few weeks ago that it would be best to introduce a completely new line of Xperia which have all kinda the same design but different internals. So from now it's X Performance (High End/former Z-line), X (midrange with less potent hardware like C5/M5) and XA (low-mid device, which just have the same design, but completely different internals) |

So...
Sony announced a handset that no-one was expecting and skipped the tablets that everyone was hoping for..
Way to go Sony *claps sarcastically*

So it seems the X has disappeared from the sonymobile pages? Unless it is not showing up for me, but it did this morning when I linked it a few pages back
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/
http://www.sonymobile.com/glo[....]s/phones/xperia-x-performance/
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-x/
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-xa/
It showed it as coming soon, and I was on the polish version, so odd that it was removed. None of these show up but their pages are active.
Rebranding the Z line to the X line is probably not a bad idea, but it still leaves room for a phablet, ie perhaps a Z premium successor?
So GSMArena has some dimensions specs up for the devices but it seems the sony site has different dimensions? X perf has 0.34 in so 8.7mm, and regular X is .31 inches or 7.9mm. If it was the same device they should have identical dimensions but they do not, maybe it is for extra cooling for the SD820? Going by the different accessories as well, it seems that the X and Xperf are not the same model. Looking at the full specs on the site sony site, claims both X and X perf have a fingerprint sensor, unlike what Nicole said in the video. Looking at the white paper only yields the XA model for now, maybe the rest will be added later.
btw, XA white paper shows the camera model, Exmor RS IMX258, front cam IMX219 exmor R.
http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/whitepapers/
I knew something was up when Maloqs posted the UAprof for the XA, F3111-F1116, Sony didn't use such endings before, and had mostly 03, 06, 53, etc for the different models. So the X is probably the F51xx model, which will the X performance be? F71xx? or a variant of the F51xx?
From the video, it seems the cameras, front and back are brighter, curious how much the software has changed seeing as the aperture remains the same? Sony poland says a June time line for availability, so 4 months, rather silly and stupid move. Yes a one per year flasghip is a better idea but announcing something now and making people wait is suicide, most users will upgrade in April with the S7 and G5
@Jamzy
I feel the roadmap is correct and someone screwed up by revealing it.
@Ricky D
Expecting tablets doesn't mean they were coming, look at what Xperiablog posted a while ago regarding tablets, ie would you miss them if they disappeared? Meaning tablets are probably not coming anymore.

i think sony used too much drugs , so their new flagship name is xperia x performance , and midrange xperia x , low one xperia xa and they will be sold @ summer , it's not believable to me but knowing sony it's possible |

I think that's all wrong. They will not abandon the Compact, it's their best and most consistent product. Flagships at IFA. |

Well if the Z line is dead after all the recognition Sony should definitely fire all the marketing team. Naming the flagship X performance?! Seriously? I really don't like to bash Sony but if these rumors are true no more sony mobile.
They just needed to release Z6 with decent specs and release a phablet and compact at IFA. I am sad to see their tablet lineup gone. I will have to go with Z4 tablet when it's price is slashed I guess. |

Yes, I would (and do) miss the tablets. I need a new one and now my best option is either a small dual-booting Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 or the older but bigger Z4 Tablet. Lost for words.
With regards to the naming strategy. I wouldn't be surprised if this new X line is the new name for the intermediary 6 month slot. We all know Sony has a long history of releasing a handset, then 6 months later releasing an updated x.5 version (Z1>Z2, Z3>Z4, all the way back to K700>K750 and earlier).
I think the X series is the .5 to the Z. I would expect in that future X series handsets to be 1H and Z series to be 2H. This way they keep their precious 6 month cycle for the Japanese but at a glance they appear to have moved to an annual renewal cycle.
Either that, or, as I had suggested in the past, they will keep two series of handsets with approximately equal innards but a starkly different design language between the two, so if you want the sharp business looking phone you buy the Z series in the second half of the year or if you want the hipster fashion handset you get the X series in the first half.

I really hope that the Z line lives as you say but the thing is X line will be released in June. I don't know. Still don't understand why Sony won't share their roadmap... I don't know you guys but the brushed metal look is waaaaay outdated. Hope the business look is kept with Z line (if it exists)
I am doomed ) I have both the Z Ultra and the Blackberry priv (both with exceptional designs) now I can't like anything ))). |

What about HP Elite x3?
Fits the size of your Ultra and has all the mandatory things to make it interesting enough to consider.
Brushed metal can never look outdated according to me

The X range and Z range are/will be different ranges, although, this first generation of the X range (particularly the X Performance) was so that Sony didn't waste its R&D on what would have been the Z6. The real Z6 will have more of a drastic step up in specifications from the Z5, as opposed to the step up between the Z5 and X Performance.

i cant figure out what sony thinking bu try to understand , these phones looks midrange to me, it's true x performance have better specs then z5 ,but they will be relased @summer , if the plan isnt changing there will be a new flagship @summer , even xperia x has strong hardware close to z5.
x performance's 8,7 mm thickness, have 2700 mah battery and 3gb ram , these specs doesnt look to me 2016 flagship.
xa is low midrange, x is high midrange and performance is super-midrange. pricing will be the key.
it has a similar logic to last z series,
flagship level
z5,z5c,z5p (same hardware , different size)
mid-level
x,xa,xp (same size, different hardware)

Seems the X performance won't be going on sale in the UK or germany, wonder which EU countries will get it. |

Sony Mobile must be really trying hard to destroy any reputation they have....X Performance??Really? That name is simply awful!!!Also, what's up with the 4 months later release? The last phone they launched was z5 premium and that was in November..Xperia XA shouldn't even cost more than 200euros...really similar specs with m4 aqua...yet it will launch at 300euros.The way Sony goes they either have a joint venture coming or they are planning for a quite shutdown. |

Well HP is not A company I trust. Windows Mobile is not my thing if I were to leave Android, it is iphone for me. My priv is kind of growing on me right now. The Ultra however is my True Love )) I will wait for ifa. If nothing good happens, then I'll sell both and go with iphone 7 plus. (because I know it will be released in the 2nd week of September) every year and will be redesigned every 2 years. Simple roadmap that does not f... With customers.
