The British Empire was the largest empire in human history, covering, at its peak, almost a third of the planet's land surface and containing approximately a quarter of the world's population. The saying 'the sun never sets upon the British Empire' was coined because the sun was always shining on a part of the Empire.

@Ayush

I don't think this thread was intended as a means to discuss politics, so perhaps it would be best to avoid such topics. I merely posted a fact, your political views, or mine for that matter, are irrelevent here.

One way birds learn is by trial and error. Scientists have discovered that many of their learned motor patterns are linked to appetite. For instance, young doves must learn to drink water. The pecking of domestic chicks improves about 30 hours after hatching. They snatch up a grain with increased efficiency. Simple trial-and-error learning is also believed to be very important in birds' nest-building.
-Attribute to competence what can adequately be explained by luck.

Scotland has a longer coastline than France; due to the rugged nature of Scotland's western coast this isn't very apparent when one looks at a map. The rugged nature of the western coast means that there are several bays and inlets, which, if 'stretched out', would constitute a longer coastline than that of France.

Continuing the Scottish theme: In 1851, a Scottish Archer in South Uist, named Robert Kilpatrick, shot an egg from his sons head at 100 yards. He had a second arrow in his belt ready for his chief, William MacDonald, who had ordered him to attempt the shot.

Must have been a good archer, huh?

The longest word in the English language is not, as most people seem to think:

Antidisestablishmentarianism

At 28 letters long, it falls way behind

Pneumonoultramiscroscopicicsicovolcanoconiosis

Its a lung disease, 48 letters long.

Magnesium gains weight in the process of burning, the ashes weigh more than the metal itself.
