damn it's a keyboard -_- stupid manufacturers stupid quality control stupid mobile companies, when you pay 1000$ for a device you expect it to work without issues for at least a month if not a year, all these new phones have issues out of the box, if it's not firmware it's hardware +_+

sorry to be a pain but could i ask all new owners of the Tytn in particular orange spv m3100 users to test is their led flash works in camera mode and that you are not getting a sceen where the backlight just switches off. I still dunno what happeing with my ohone but i have decided to return it to orange and wait once more for the p990 !!!

Quick update on my new SPV M3100.
Not tested the Camera/backlight issue described above, but the screen is better and more responsive than my previous Vodas and all the keys seems to work well (even with quick repeated presses). Also I don't mind the Orange Today Screen as it helps with single handed use. However, will try to operate with PowerSave disabled to see if it easier to use for making calls (pressing the 'On' switch before you can make calls is a pain) and see what impact it has on battery life. Still don't find the ergonomics as well designed as the P990 - but perhaps i need a few more days of use first before I can really tell if all the different buttons (there are lots, must count them at some point  ) help or hinder.

I almost have but I've spoken at length to HTC this morning and they are escalating the keyboard issue and will get back to me asap with definite info about this
I'm also hopeful that by the time i-mate sell this it will be sorted

Christ on a bike! I spend 11 months eagerly awaiting the p990 and at the last minute plump for the tytn to find it full of bugs. I had to do a hard reset 2ce - as advised by Orange diagnostics. The handset has apalling stability. I keep hanging up on calls because my ear has pressed the screen, the camera will still not take more than 1 2m photo before needing a soft reset. No GPRS counter? - great, Orange can charge me what they like and i have no way of checking. The whole thing about having to mess about for ringtones and especially message alerts is annoying. The sync software is utter pants, every time I sync it removes all my alerts and ringtones and puts them in the root folder so they cannot be used. Shall I go on? . . . .
A pal and I went out with his k750i and took a series of identical pictures and then compared them on the pc- the k750 won hands down!! I was gutted, better colours, better definition, I know they're both 2mp but the lens can make a massive difference - tytn's looks tiny, letting less light through than the k.
The m3100 looks lovely in my opinion, and the keyboard is fabulous - I love it, the HW recognition is great, wifi works fine for me, skype works well, but these plus points are small consolation for the infuriating problems.
I wish I'd waited. I'm off to the orange shop today to kick up a stink, I'll try one replacement tytn, if there's no improvement (I really don't expect one reading this thread) I'll be demanding a refund and getting back on the p990 waiting list!

I hear ya Matt !!! its bloody silly. when i reported my problem wirth the led/backlight to their tech support all i got was the same advice as you do a hard reset !!! I'd dont a few already and still my phone has the same problem !!! arrrh oh well back to waiting for the p990i !!!

thing is, I sold my p910i with 2gb stick and £150 worth of genuine software. Now it looks like I'll have to stick with the tytn or else I'll have no phone until orange finish wrecking the p990 with their firmware. Damn, signed up for 18 months too, to bring the price of the tytn down so no upgrade, looks like I may be stuck with it for some time. Fingers, toes and everything else crossed the replacement tytn will surprise me and run like a dream. Goddamn my childish impatience!!b

I never registered my phone cos i wanted to play with it first and they let you return the handset if you are not happy with it. I always do it this way so as to avoid being stuck on contrat with a phone i dont like ! I will still have to be on an 18 month contract when the p990 comes out and have been told it is deffo september for its release so it cant be long now ! soz to hear that you are stuck with your phone though !

Looking at the TyTN forum at forum.xda-developers and it seems even devices with a s/n HT632 have a screen alignment issue. Better give my M3100 a good hamering tonight just in case.

I've just come back from Tottenham Court Road where I tried 2 shops, 4 units and all but the one I bought had keyboard problems.
I tested the keyboard for 20 minutes and the screen for a further 10 minutes befoer accepting this one... so for now I have a smile again!

can't remember the name of the first one but they had one return for the keyboard problems with around 20 units sold in total
I got this one from INKINO where I got my P990 from and they haven't had any back but did get one DOA unit.
They also haven't had any more P990's since the orignial 3 they got

Just back from spending an hour in the orange shop arguing about consumer rights! They finally agreed to swap the handset there and then, I've got home and there's no battery!!!!
I'm off back in now to show them the meaning of battery!!
Maybe, just maybe, I might get this sorted out sometime this millenia. |

Seems okay, ie less than 20% faulty units. I suspect most owners have not played with all the features yet - or they were visiting the UK and....
