@AYA, thanks a lot for ur assistance. I've done almost everyth'n in the book, but can't seem to find where to fit in my CID(by d way, wt's CID?). MTN hasn't helped matters too, d gprs service keeps trippin on and off.
The error msg am getting is 770, tellin me to chk my settings.
AYA, pls wt shld i fill in as d type of dial up server? Here i hav "PPP: Windows 95/98/NT4/2000, internet". And also "SLIP: Unix Connection". [addsig]

Bennie, at this point, is your pc communicating with your phone? you can tell by looking at the phone after you click on the "Dial" button on your computer. You should see your phone connecting. If this isn't happening, then your modem installation is not complete.
Remember that IrDa requires line of sight to work (your pc and phone IrDa ports should be facing each other.)
CID is the data account number your phone is expected to connect thru. Depending on your phone model, I can tell you how to determine your correct data account number.

@AYA amd Ambyz, thanks a lot. Yes i think there's comm., cos wn i place d fon the error msg reads "chk setting". But if i take off d fone, it reads "chk if other device is turned on or turn it off and on again". This shows some level of comm.
How did u say i can get my CID?

Yeah Bennie, Coolapostle also complained about the same problem. Unfortunately, most Nokia phones do not display data account connection ID (CID) information, so you are going to have to use the "Trial and error method" Most phone will not allow more than ten data accounts to be set up, so starting with 1, interchange the ? in the *99***?# until you get to 10, one of these should get the phone connecting.
If you have requested OTA settings from MTN, it is most likely to be 2
If you have used the same phone for Glo GPRS before MTN, it is most likely to be either 4 or 5. Use these as guides. I hope it works for you, because I'm fresh out of ideas, I'm not very used to Nokia phones.

@Ambyz, i've followed d steps provided by AYA, but still cant find where to fill in d CID num. Am sure dt's where my problem lies.
I will need u to pls take ur time and run me thru every step u took while setting up ur pc and also the choice(s) u made frm various options. It might take a while though, but do take ur time. I'ld be really grateful.

I told you you'd have to try 1 to infinity; didn't I? More seriously, now that you mention its a Nokia, your problems are solved. Install the PC suite, connect your phone to PC whether by cable or infrared, then click "Make Conection" or so on the PC suite menu. Follow the instructions and it will setup your connection automatically in minutes.

Not exactly. CID is peculiar to each network and has nothing to do with the phone. For example, my CID for internet connection on both Glo and MTN is 1 respectively, regardless of any phone I use, which GPRS network I had used the phone to access, or whether one requests OTA or otherwise (or even how many times OTA settings got sent to the line/phone).

Ultimately, bennie: I am almost certain that your connectivity woes are more from the fact that MTN is quite unstable at the moment. But do try the PC Suite auto connection thing.

My first phone was a gift, motorola T190 and it came with my MTN line, which am still using, as at then lines where falling, there was a ramadan bonanza and mtn lines were going for N6,000, while motorola T190 then was about N10,000, so i would have spent N16,000 then if i had bought them on my own.

@Aya: like I said, it was only meant to be a guide. There are no fixed account ID's for any service provider, however, CID's are numbered on a "first come first serve" basis. there4 if u receive OTA settings from MTN on a new fone, the required CID would most likely be between 1&3 thats what I meant.
