Well, I think octa-core is useless for OSs like Android. It is really hard to optimize the software with the cpu due to fragmentation. But with iOS, it would be interesting.
Yeah it's quite useless for smartphone OSes like android and even iOS, but It'll be priceless for the upcoming OS ubuntu for phones. where the ability to run desktop grade programs will motivate chipmakers to further improve SoC performance per watt. I honestly loved the idea of having full capability of a PC OS on my smartphone, as this will be a gap that neither windows RT nor a android/iOS could fill in for the next half decade or so, and I can't see RT being a laptop replacement without X86 app compatibility found in windows 8.
One more thing, I really hope Sony kills the name Xperia Z and replaced it with Clie series.Clie sounds better than Xperia.
for some reason Xperia sounded more pleasing than Clie, not to mention the latter's logo looked awful :3 but that's just my 2 cents worth

Welcome back razec, damn man how we miss you
I believe that for the time being, and untill we find a solution for battery+heat+size problem the best way to handle what a user want in his mobile is local cloud computing... I like the idea of buying a PS game that will be available in all your platforms ( PC, PS, Mobile, tablet ) and when you're at home it will be played in your PS, but the screen will be your mobile and will uses your mobile controls also.. or if you want you can control the game with your mobile and see it in your TV... there's two major problems now that need to be solved for this approach...
1- Fully compatible game content : You need a game platform that can be controllable from varity of controllers ( touch, joysticks, movement )...
2- the Latency problem : It's the biggest problem now as the latency required to stream control/screen between wireless devices is just too high for most of games, even in the PC industry all hardcore gaming uses wired controllers ( Keyboard + Mice ) not to mention adding the screen latency problem also...

Woah! Thanks alot Xajel and to you randomuser, whom I have so much respect I'm not really missing in action I still keep checking the posts from various threads here and there though I admit haven't logged in my account for quite a while for 6 years I've been a member, i don't think completely leaving this site that I loved and keep loving would ever come to my mind
I'm no chip engineer but I think one way to alleviate the heat and power consumption problem on top-end SoCs would be a hardware implementation that was already used on desktop X86 CPUs, the venerable "power gating" which was first introduced by the first generation core-i7s on 2008. but I can't understand how ARM couldn't do such thing on its design and instead opted for pretty hyped Big.little which is imho a waste of die space (and costlier to produce) that Big Little could've been much more amazing if it's just a "Big" (8 A15-cores) with less power leakage

^^
That what Nvidia had achieve in Tegra 4 and previous generation . it uses Quad core for big task and the Fifth core has low frequency and used in sleeping mod to save power..
