If sofia is not announced on the 15th april, the rumours of seeing it on october would be true, but if it's announced...prepare your pockets for june!
its not a rumor, Sofia will be shipped in October.
I wont go into detail over my source but he confirmed the shipping week for Sofia (w41 or w2).
Eomer originally posted this on MR. And hes been dead right on all those sorts of things. Its not a case like on here where people say
"i have a feeling it will be feb 12"
then
"march trust me wink wink"
Sofia will not ship till October. Its not a huge update on the k800 and SE want concentrate more on mid range phones as well as making th em series better due the p990 being discontinued now.
Sofia will be just the same as the k800 with qvga 15fps video. No hsdpa, no wifi.
The k800 is still selling well and the k810 should boost that a bit more. Thats the reason sofias been pushed back.
You all just pluck dates out of nowhere on this forum but i can posativley say it will not be out by july as most are hoping. |

If it does come out in October, then Nokia would have already announced the successor to the N95 in September 2007 and SE would be even more behind in terms of 5MP camera phones. |

Can anyone else confirm this October shipping date? It's very disheartening. Yes the K800 is probably selling great, but if SE does not intend to make any upgrades for the successors, it's destined to fall behind big time in the mobile phone market. It also points to the fact that they have no interest in becoming number 1 in the industry. It really doesn't make any sense considering that they have made so much progress in getting there for the past couple of years. Obviously while SE is taking advantage of the brand names of its other products "cyber-shot, walkman, (maybe) bravia" etc, it needs to improve upon existing models to attract a larger loyal customer base. I'm hoping this October date is bullsh!t, but as time is ticking by, this is becoming more and more realistic. Which sucks. |

Well if the K800 is selling well it will sell even better once Sofia comes out and K800's price is reduced. It will become a mid range phone within a few months of Sofia coming out just like the K750 is now a mid-range phone after K800 came out.
Why do SE want to change this cycle? It does not make sense for them to delay Sofia for this reason.
Did they bite off more than they could chew by planning a big diversification of their product line? Are they deliberately delaying this release because they fear it might cut into their digital camera market? |

Laffen didn't say it would be April 15th. He said 'he would bet' on it being 15th, which should be taken as no more than a strong hint.
As for Sofia, well if it is just a beefed-up K800i then who can blame SE for putting it back, especially if the K800i is selling so well.
Releasing Sofia would probably kill off any further K800i/K810 sales in a few weeks (who would have 3.2mp if 5.0mp is available?).

Having followed this thread (and similar ones on similar sites) for months now, I must say I start to think Sofia never existed in the first place or was scrapped some time ago.
If an announcement was imminent, we should see some spypics by now or at least some leaked data as opposed to the supposed (i.e. fanboys' wet dreams) data sheet floating around.
As an Ericsson/SE user all my life and a satisfied K750 owner, I never thought I'd say this but maybe it's time to switch brands.
Still, it seems unbelievable that SE would simply skip the 5.0MP category as "the k800/810 is selling very well". It's as if BMW would scrap the 5 series as "the 3 series is selling well". |

just because a handset should be announced or is due to launch doesnt mean we should b seeing spy pics.... i mean no1 saw the W580i comin did they???
no pics no nothin!
If Sophia is really coming an is gonna b a big release then SE will want to keep it as quiet as poss to stop other manufacturers getting wind of it and putting somethin together to fan the flames of an outstanding release!!!
I mean Samsung did it with LG's Chocolate by bringing out a slightly better equipped one out a week after the LG come out lol...

yeh i think so... for some reason i feel sophia isnt goin to live up to all the dreams on this thread...
SE r always really clever bout such things... Let a competitor release a handset with everythin bolted to it (like the N95), wait a little an see how well it sells and if the company have any probs with software or hardware and then release something thats very simliar but more reliable, has slightly better hardware and more reliable software BUT is a lot cheaper to produce and thus a lot cheaper for us to purchase... Like they did between the N70 and K750i....
N70 is released as an all singing all dancing phone that does everything but is very very unstable software side! Then SE release the K750i which has a slightly better cam but is more reliable, more user friendly and cheaper! |

This has been the strategy for a while now - and its seems to be working but not always to the benefit of us, who want it all in one device.
Like why confine a 5.0mp cam to super high-end devices? Just put one in a mid-tier Cybershot phone and it will be automatically compared with the cams on high-end devices like the N95 and will be priced a lot cheaper at the same time.
Sort of makes sense . . . .

Thing is that after release of NOKIA N95 in most European countries, SE has left a lot behind in terms of high-end devices. The good strategy would be to announce the competitor to N95 and release it latest by June. If the rumors here for October are true then I will go for a N95 in the summer. SE seems not to be interested forhigh-end users like us. Instead the give us the W880 which is sold for 450 euros(approximately)!!!!!!! Well that's a very high price for 2 MP camera(without auto focus) and 1 GB memory.....Cme on SE give us something or loose us.... |
