@Brix, thanx for the link, boet.
It's been a day straight outa a Leon Schuster flick, petty bureacracy doing its level best to impede progress. Words of wisdom- if you want to achieve nothing but endless meetings, leave matters in the hands of a committee. Gawd, i loathe inaction. Less than a month before schools close and the bliksems are still talking instead of doing...
Regarding opening of gmail attachments, i agree with Brix, it's only a matter of time before a version of Mini appears that allows it. For now, http://gmobile.sayni.net does the job of forwarding attachments quite nicely, although it won't open em up either.
Brix mentioned the Ruperts the other day. Anybody ever been to their "cottage" in the Karoo, by any chance?

@Wanqsta, here's something you may be interested in- the revival of ancient motorcycle race, the P.E.200 which was last run in the late 50's but which has been resuscitated.

@ Kryptik,
thanks for that; I did find it of interest and forwarded the link to a few mates back in EL. Haven't been to Aldo Scribante Circuit for at least 6 years.
@ BlueQuill,
'boet' is a more informal, slang derivation form the word 'broer',which literally means 'brother',but used as an Afrikaans (derived from Dutch) equivalent to the English 'bro', ie. as in referring to a mate.
Your second guess was pretty much spot-on! |

I believe that a majority of the south african population have their origins in netherlands. ??

@ BlueQuill,
You mean the majority of the white SA population; very much in the minority.
The white population mainly have either Dutch or English ancestory, but smaller groups of French and German settlers also arrived along SA shores, mostly during colonial times.
The white population thus either have English or Afrikaans as their first language, and the other as a second language.

During recent years there's been quite an upsurge in the numbers from the former East Bloc/Russia moving to South Africa. In fact, i'm sitting at a coffee shop at the beachrightfront now, having a conversation with a Ukrainan sitting at the next table. He came over to visit for two weeks, and decided to extend his visit. That was nearly 10 years ago!

Ditto here in the UK,particularly in the east end of London. As there is a lot of Asian families steadily moving into lower parts of neighbouring Essex, such as Ilford etc,so more and more people from the former Eastern Bloc, particularly from Lithuania,Russia and Poland, have increased...the changes in demographics is growing.

Today was one hellavu hectic day, this morning I was running up and down in court. Then this afternoon as I was sitting down to write my stories one of the nuclear reactors at Koeberg goes pop leaving the whole of Cape Town without power for two whole hours...some ppl saw this as an excuse to duck early while I sat at my PC praying for power.

@Brix, i see the online edition of the Cape Times promptly covered the reactor-failure story, so i'm guessing you guys had a generator or two stowed in the bottom drawer of the editor's desk. Next to the medicinal brandy :-)
