Spencer Kelly of BBC Click had a small comparison of X1, Google Android mobile and LGs Renoir. Watch out he says the X1 screen is not that responsive.

I think he just meant that in general, as he said it about the Renoir also. The rotation looked very fast though. Maybe there is a very slight delay that is the OS's fault or the processor's fault and not a fault of the screen, I suppose.

I'm hardly nitpicking when other smartphone players in the game have given us the 8gb internal memory option for their best high end devices, let alone a multimedia (among other capabilities X1 boasts of having) smartphone which is not unprecedented for SE (W960 remember?). You can't seriously think I'm nitpicking?

well I just guess there isn't a perfect for everyone. take the HTC touch pro, it doesn't even have the 4gb internal memory like the touch diamond (the touch diamond doesn't have the micro SD slot tho.).

The samsung onmia has huge amounts of internal memory, along with the iphone, but they do not have a qwerty keyboard (and the onmia has a lower resolution screen compared to touch pro and X1)

or if you want to talk about the nokia n96 well same issue here, no keyboard and not even touch screen.

I guess if the "little" internal memory of the x1 doesn't satisfy your needs, you might need to look elsewhere for a more suitable phone.

@erichui

Looking elsewhere is an easy way out like most marriages these days, i'm a bit old fashioned and loyalty means something to me. Again another argument comparing to the market's norm. SE is 5th now and the last thing we need is for it to 'conform' to normal standards. What it really needs is something totally unprecedented and complete to seal off any opportunity to nitpick, at least for the more logical specs. Just imagine a Samsung Innovate with TC and qwerty. If nobody's done that then what the hell is SE waiting for? Lead already!

Yes I do. It's their only WM device to date, and by no means is 8GB onboard a common configuration for WM.

First you say your problem is that you can't save emails, so we address that. Now it's about multimedia?

No one is stopping you from buying an N96 or Innov8, I don't get the grief. If you like the X1, get it and a 16GB card when it comes out (that'll give you 20GB all up) and be happy.

If you don't like anything about the X1, then what's your beef? Or do you like it but are complaining because you can't have a phone that has the config you like AND have the logo on it? Surely it's not such a big deal what brand the phone is?

I honestly don't see anything wrong with the X1 memory configuration. It's ahead of most WM phones coming out. It's not going to be everything to all people - that's been established for a while now. If SE made the X1 with "everything" they'd be crazy. They are testing the waters with this model and the fact is if they gave it everything people are still only going to buy it if they like it. The vast majority of people don't buy phones based on a checklist of "it has everything". SE have to ensure the X1 appeals to a wide range of people without being so over the top that if it flops they lose masses of money. (having "everything" has never been the sole cause of success of any phone model)

Keep an eye on the next xperia, then your criticism would be more understandable. Or even criticise SE for not having got their UIQ shit together, that I can understand (for example an updated W960 with HSDPA) but I don't get the criticism of X1 based on it not having multi-GB internal memory??

Sometimes features are not just constrained by money or ideas, but also by technology as well.

Say you give the X1 extra built in memory, then there would be other issue which could arise such as bigger volume (or say a smaller capacity battery) which would again be a deal breaker for other people.

X1 is one of the best high end compromises Ive ever seen! Period. Any device is a compromise of many many factors. Just think:
There is the way the R&D labs want it to be: spec'ced to the sky
There is the way finance dept want it to be: as cheap as possible
There is the way the designers want it to be- aesthetically beautiful
There is the way the manufacturer wants it to be- as simple as possible
There is the way the safety dept wants it to be- no complaints from users
Worst of all, there is the way the consumer wants it to be- cheap but unlimited. Taking all this into account is difficult. Still through this X1 has raised the bar for WM in many ways (e.g. RAM, Screen resolution- best for PPI, one of the first with WVGA screen, small size for its power, one of the first with an arc sliding keyboard, one of the first with an optical joystick, AND a D-pad), so what's not to like? Theres no way to get better at the moment. But yes, in the future we will have to expect a Samsung INNOV8 camera spec added to that.

TomTom 7 VGA Version works great in my X1!

@henkeee
Hi does the X1 built in GPS receiver work with TomTom 7?
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot.

sorry but i think you are nitpicking.

There is a solution, that works well, that is easy enough to implement. If the fact it is not enabled out of the box is going to stop you from buying an X1 then I think you are being short sighted. Of course if you have other reasons then fair enough but the email saving issue of itself is a non-issue as far as I am concerned.

X1 is a smartphone not a feature phone. It's expected that the functionality can be enhanced by the end user.

Try telling that to according to them it is the customizable "features" that make the X1 a business suit and a lounge suit!

Yeah well I make a point of taking marketing spiel with a grain (make that a truckload) of salt.

As useful as the panels may turn out to be, the real customisability of the X1 comes from it being a WM device.
