@BlueQuill: Yep, Halloween is over...it's not celebrated down here because it doesn't quite make sense seeing we're in Spring and Halloween is a marked to announce the onset of the Northern hemisphere winter.

@da krypsta: Seemingly VenFin shareholders have accepted the R16 billion offer from Vodafone for the purchase of their shares.

I'd also like to wish all my Muslim brothers and sisters on the thread a joyous Eid. Cape Town streets are empty today....looks like a Sunday.

I think this is great that Vodafone takes that 15% stake in Vodacom... Telkom should sell a few of their shares too.
As you all know I don't have anything against ____fone

I like the new Vodafone Logo

@ Blue, given the costs of the paint scheme my better half is contemplating the odds of laying my mitts on one of the new phones are pretty slim. Mind you, i kinda agree with her- slap a really good quality paint on the place and it won't need to be repainted for a coupla years. If there's one decorating chore i truly abhor, it's painting...

Saw a Toshiba cellphone (TS10) for the first time today at the local branch of The Link. A flip-phone with no protruding antenna like a lot of other new flip phones on the market, but encased in a 'dimply',goosefleshy, metal-pocked finish on the exterior casings. The round,rubbery-looking,orange-lit keys on the keypad reminded me of those truly horrible Bosch 509 bricks of years ago.
Expensive (£99.99) for a cellphone without I/R,B/T,video,non-expandable memory...only a typical VGA camera.
Truly spartan on the specs list.To think what one can buy here for the same money nowadays...
Oh,and it's locked to that UK-based network who sponsor some team currently lying 7th in the UK premiership...

LOL @ Kryptik...in another 50 years there'd probably only three manufacturers after years of consolidation of the handset market, we probably won't even have handsets as we currently know them....5 yrs from now handsets that simply make phone calls and text would've completely disappeared from the market.
Enough of future predictions, let me wish this thread and it's posters a happy birthday...it started off slowly but once the bug bit we kept it moving.

Amen to that,Kryptik!
Yes,I'd also like to personally thank bra-brix for having the initiative and drive to start this forum and kept it 'rolling' until more and more of us discovered and contributed towards the SA mobile discussion.
Also, a big thanks to our Nigerian friends, and others, who assisted brix in keeping it alive in the early days.

Enkosi kakhulu,mhlekazi!

Congratulations to each one of you on the completion of one year of this thread . Definitely there will be more such birthdays to be celebrated.

SE seems to have learnt a thing or two from nokia/samsung in terms of marketing. In india, they are suddenly making their presence felt through a spate of ads. Mainly promoting the w800i, w550i and two very cheap models J something(sorry i am forgetting the no. ) but imo it will take them a long time to capture the market.

And it's Guy Fawkes/Bonfire Night...gee,the fireworks were seemingly unrelenting around here last night.
Maybe I can convince my neice and my friend's kids that all the firework displays tonight will be to celebrate the SA forum's birthday!!
