By the way, I really hoped for a Tablet. Think we'll see one this year? |

man....Sony is asking 600 EUR for a midrange device. That is insane. The S7 and LG G5 will cost the same say. |

In regard to "x performance", it is a z5 refresh but sony with their marketing team thinks that they can confuse us. Sony thinks that we need another flagship refresh but we don't, not when z5 is on the market, not when in september they are going to announce a new trio of flags including a main size one, not when they are going to launch it only in a few months when it is already irrelevant device now but will be even more irrelevant in a few months and not when they ask for a flagship price tag. Sony is digging their own grave slowly but surely.
I have no prob with the x and xa if priced right. xa design is pretty cool and refreshing.
What should have happened, 2 options:
1. Announce x and xa at mwc and leave the high ends compact, main and premium for ifa.
2. Announce the x and xa whenever, announce the main or main and compact at mwc and the premium or premium and compact at ifa.
In either case, a half a year high end refresh should only appear inside of japan where japanese ask for it.

It appears that sony gave up on the z tablet line, at least for this year. Though nobody can blame them. |

I am kind of worried about Sony dropping the Z series. About the metal back, I would have preferred the same sturdy and grippy plastic back on the Z4 tablet. Brushed look is outdated. It's nice for a midrange but as I said x performance might be the new flagship.
For the second half, if I were the one calling the shots, I would release a 6 inch Z premium insanely thin, 4K, fingerprint sensor embedded into the screen, latest SoC, same RAM with the Note 6, and the grippy back . I think people would buy it.
And force touch of course.

The XP will mix it with the S7 and G5 performance-wise, it should be cheaper which is its greatest advantage. People will see similar levels of performance to those flagships and be impressed, mainly because the SD820 is excellent. Its not expected to trump them but I'm adamant that it will impress even in the camera department. Lower expectations mean a bigger surprise. Also, The XA with its big chin looks great in person and feels nice in the hand. |

Honestly, I think they did the right thing except for the late release date.
It would have been too early for a flagship. Sony has a different flagship release cycle than the rest. They could have named it z5+ but for some reason they didn't.
Sony has limited resources right now and it's impossible to go head to head with Samsung even Lg's G5 is in a pretty bad position right now against Samsung. Sony has to be careful and I think by announcing these phones as X series, they want to keep their fans/sony followers

Cheaper? Lol
I'm willing to bet it will be close to S7 pricing.
Sony phones aren't particularly cheap on launch |

The Galaxy S7 has a custom camera module made by Sony called IMX260. Wonder if are going to see it in Xperia devices too. |

With a sure high end price tag, a launch only after 4 months, a flagship device already on market (z5), an upcoming new main flag announcement at september's ifa and the inability to truly compete against the biggest rivals sony is just making 100% sure that this so called "x performance" device (z5 refresh) is a sure certified fail. I find nothing good about this but getting some coverage from the media to let the world know that you are not dead. This is survival mode at best. Hopefully they will outdo themselves and truly deliver with ifa 2016 trio announcement.

Is the Z6 still a certainty? If not, the X Performance is a poor stand-in.

I feel the same. With such a late release date and a high-end price tag to a phone that lacks bells and whistles but doesn't lack in pretty thck bezels. This phone is doomed before it hits the market.

So how much does it cost? Right....let the XP reviews come in before branding it an instant fail. So far there are people on the MWC floor saying the camera on the S7 is like the second coming of Jesus while others say its worse than the S6, who knows until someone does a proper review. Sometimes you need to flush out the mental toilet otherwise you get a pile up of poo with a smell that affects everyone. |

That could be it.
What on earth made them think announcing a phone 4months before its release is a good idea. It's so frustrating to see them make such stupid mistakes.
They could blow billions of $s on the marketing campaign but the timing will be truly off.
Oh Sony.
