The HTC, for me, has a better display. The colors seem to be more real than and these aren't over exposure as the Z.
I agree, at the beginning I preferred the Z but comparing that paused video the HTC looks better to me. Although its at an angle I wouldn't be viewing my phone at so it's not the best comparison.

Some people here are really ignorant how Sony works with screens, this is same bullshit all over again with the Xperia T about the screen color and brightness.

Eh Lol looks too bad to be true. I wouldn't worry about sample pictures till u can take photos with it urself. Then I'd judge the image quality, there r too many ways to make an image look bad. |

Man, are you so desperate or so? This comparing is the same shit with the T vs S all over again.
Those are just Factory settings.
"Images are rendered beautifully (with Sony's Mobile Bravia Engine 2 bringing a noticeable boost), though we do have some complaints. The viewing angles could've been better and the glass covering teh screen is quite reflective too. Still, it's easily one of the best screens we've seen."
And many others are disagree with you. |

It's not easy to compare screen quality when using different wallpapers

I have the Z launcher in my T. It's grey, not black.

The lumia appears to lose a lot of detail in the dark areas and white areas.
Look at the very background, you can see a building with the Z but only white on the nokia.
Also, the ground just behind the plant. The Z you can see detail on the ground on the nokia is just white.
You can also see more detail on the plant's leaves on the Z.
The plant on the Z does look more washed out because it's brighter, I guess you could do a bit of post processing and adjust the gamma/contrast to get a similar look to the nokia with the Z. |

I currently owned the Xperia TX and from what I can see, the Z is definitely a step up. but I dunno if I want to part with my TX yet. however I did ponder of buying the 4.3 inch Xperia V which is also every thing the TX have plus water and dust resistant, and now Xperia Z. With the 4.5 inch Xperia TX, I thought any bigger would be a turn off, however seeing the Xperia Z screen and the display is just breathtaking, I might actually start o like the 5.0 inch.
fyi, I didn't like the 5.3 inch Samsung Galaxy Note & II, but the design of the Xperia Z may just seal the deal. and with the metal contact charging point, I won't ever have to charge via USB, which I like that it can be covered for protection. wonderful.
T-mobile USA network. Xperia x10i unlocked + 32GB / Xperia Neo Xperia TX LT29i Xperia Z C6606 Xperia L C2104 Xperia M Dual C2004 Currently using Xperia Z1s C6916 (T-Mobile USA)

Guys, why are judging the Z based on old prototypes
Wait for the final retail models, then if you feel the screen is bad or camera is bad we can criticize it the whole year |

This shows the HDR function. For that, the phone combine different exposures to give a reasonable balance between indoor (dark) and outdoor (bright). But, maybe one of the exposure is too high (indoor). I believe they don't have HDR level like their alpha camera. Why don't sony include DRO (dynamic range optimizer) in their xperias ? I like to use DRO function on the alpha camera especially in this type of situation. |
