Know three guys who bricked their "unlocked" iphones recently, i have zero intention of forking out 300 quid for a v expensive paperweight!!
When and if they become Sim-free, i shall invest in one!!

simple advice is don't update OS until you know it's safe to do so.. an "unlocked" iPhone isn't going to brick itself with out some user intervention!

The FW is highly unstable in one's that have been "diddled", it's not only an OS upgrade that can make them go tit's up Reg

from what i've seen so far.. virtually every iphone has been "fixable" after a major crash.. provider that you aren't on a locked firmware.....

I put it in a apple hifi dock in HMV and the screen went white, after which it rebooted loads and then wouldn't charge when i took it home then it died as the battery went, tried to replace the battery either it didn't work or i didn't do it properly, proper gutted loved it so much. Can't find a solution anywhere.

That's bad news Haynesycop, stuff of nightmares really, i know two guys this week who had similar end results as yours (though initiated via different actions).
Trouble is you see that the iphone is ultimatly a very expensive device, not one to go hacking wildly at without coming to terms with the possibility of it being bricked, even by accident.
Again it's not the kind of device that your local friendly turbanite who runs a phone shop down the market can fix for you whilst you do your shopping
I will (on principle) never buy an iphone untill it either becomes available sim-free, or has a proper network unlock (like 99% of decent/normal phones do)!!.

I know i made a big mistake which i regret i'm going to buy another one through the proper channels. If i do get one from apple and get the contract through o2 in iTunes then i something went wrong i'd be covered right and it would get replaced by apple.
One thing i'm wondering and hope someone will be able to answer. I have had a contract with t-mobile since around November, it is a 12 month contract would i be able to get my number from it and transfer it to a new o2 one it is such a good number and have t-mobile allocate me another one?
If so i'd order one straight away, absolutely loved that phone.

I've told you how to go about doing this!!
Get some pac code for any old number from Orange pay as you go, voda, o2 whoever.. transfer it into t-mob, your existing number then sits on your account for 6 months, tell em you want it back, they will give you a pac for it et voila!
(might be worth checking with tmob first though.. I know how batty some companies about numbers and pac codes)
