unfortunately 'tones' are what make up part of a theme (im sure most dont have any specific tunes assigned though) so that is perfectly normal behaviour, but annoying all the same!

Guess I better do that

Still learning the phone. haven't had a Symbian handset since the P900 first came out and that was in for repair more than in use so didn't get much chance to learn the phone.
Have stuck with K series ever since but started to get bored with the same thing on every update. Only thing that was different was the camera.
I tried sniffing coke once but didnt like it. The bubbles kept going up my nose

Or remove the sound files fm your themes ?

Here is the latest version of Themes Creator:

http://developer.sonyericsson[....]&ver=4000&template=ps3&zone=ps

Just open your theme, go to the sounds tab and remove them, save your theme and upload it to your phone.

Edit: If you want to save the sound files prior removing them from your theme, right-click the theme file, select 'Open with', untick 'Always use the selected program...', (select 'Browse' and choose C:Program FilesWinzipWinzip32.exe) to open the file with Winzip, and extract the sound files.

The steps in parantheses are only required for the first time.

Hi Fillerist and thanks for your feedback.
I wonder if you and yours alike can use the P1 wiki:
http://uiq3.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Phones/P1i
for reporting bugs like the ones for P990 over here:
http://uiq3.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Phones/P990i

It would be excellent source for us to get feedback from the usercommunity in a more formal way.

I will redirect your feedback but I know if you guys set up wiki for the p1 it will get more attention then a number of threads.

Cheers

So.. if anyone have any bugs to report and/or feature requests to share. Or optionally just want to redesign the Bug- section, please do so.. Right about now and onwards.

And.. obviously, if enough people sign on to this, we will "help" SE weed out the remaining problems with the phone - which would serve all of us (except bitter p990 owners). And I'm very certain SE is capable of taking care of the remaining issues without much effort, basically because the phone really is unlike most smartphones so far: I.e., it has no fundamental flaws in the OS or hardware that makes even the simplest fix impossible, or requires a complete reverse- engineering (for instance because of RAM issues) in order to be successful.

And hence the need for more than one person going around complaining. Since that alone will not raise the bar for what it means if the phone "functions well". Which at the moment is "does not have showstopping bugs, and we do not receive more than two letter- bombs each year".

And, probably, if we want to see some of the fixes here - such as things that are there because of pure laziness on the part of SE (the imap and e-mail stuff, for instance) - ever be fixed.. at least before the release of the next p- series phone - we need to let SE know what should be fixed, in a constructive way.

Because, let's face it - the reason the phones still have loads of issues when you take it out of the box, is because consumers buy crap, and are generally happy with it as long as it's shiny and expensive. So ease your conscience about being a pimple on the arse of capitalism, and go write something in the wiki. Please.

What can I say, I am a P990 owner
There is one thing that seems to be forgotten: the P1 is also based on Symbian 9.1 which has a basic flaw with memory management which will be corrected in Symbian 9.5. For details search for "garbage collection". So unless SE gives Symbian 9.5 to the P1, it is bound to have the same fate as the P990. The extra memory covers up for some of the flaws but at the end the flaws are still there
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD

Bad choice of words, I guess.

..Even if - as I understand it - that the 'flaw' is a lack of more c++ conform conventions. And that symbian never will get garbage- collection like java, etc, and that it hasn't for a reason - that it's not supposed to have processes running at random in the background. And what seems to have been suggested is to have the option to use different ways to release objects in symbian 10. Which to me seems like a way to invite loads of crappy code that wastes resources everywhere except on the "free mem" display..

Anyway. What I meant was that they don't have to reassess the entire phone's program- suite if a program expands the memory usage. Which really would give the developers fewer restraints when both fixing bugs and implementing new code. So in practical terms, there's no physical problem with implementing a new set of dialogues, another table- lookup... another structure to get around a previous implementation limitation, etc.

Now, we ..only.. have to get SE to get their asses in gear.. *cough*

Does anyone know how to use the P1 as a Bluetooth modem using the mobile networking wizard. On my PC, the only message shown is: searching for mobile phone.... and nothing happens !

Many thanks.

@Nipsen

Well said. But it'll take a generous measure of both carrot and stick to get people to actually go to the wiki and post the bugs ( speaking as one who participated in the drive for one more FW for the P990 not so long ago ).

You'll have to keep repeating the above post. In screaming red . And capital letters an inch high.

Good luck

Yeah.. it's so much easier to just complain, no?

It's hard to admit, you know - being a programmer and someone who really believe that making good products is good for business - but the truth is that if you serve people crap and say it's revolutionary, you'll generally get happy customers. And if you do it half- way, and try to include the customers into the process in other ways than asking "do you want green flashing lights, or red flashing lights?", while aiming to actually create something useful - you're going to get a reputation for making shoddy, second grade products. Because the vast majority of people want to be told what's cool, and have no real concept of what they want to use their new devices for. And if you think that's strong, just look at the success of various microsoft- solutions and "portal" solutions for mobile devices.

Really, I can very much understand SE's decision to spend more resources on more mobile phones with limited functionality, instead of expanding the market for Smartphones, in lone majesty. Because obviously the development process is less troublesome, and the products in the end sell better, and are generally more successful for more users.

..And when in addition the "power- users" of smartphones are... not very interested in actually using the functions the phone has fully - well, what's the point in even developing the phone? Just to show that it can be done? Prove to those who actually know their business that - contrary to the "belief" in the market - that it is economically feasible to create tiny, tiny, mobile devices with laptop- functionality? ...Beats me, anyway.

When calling direct from my call register the phone often cancels dialling out and I have to repeat several times over - it just took me FIVE attempts to dial a number!! Has anyone else experienced this?

Alter the theme with SEs Theme Creator and add in your ringtone to it. Thats what i did on my P990, then the ringtone stay with your themes [addsig]

Last night I had the first restart of my P1i ("The phone has restarted in order to improve performance"). I bought it on the 20th of August. The strange thing is that it happened at standby mode without using the phone. This never happened with P990i. Unless it was receiving a text message but still it is strange because I didn't use it a lot yesterday.

...I don't know, but have any of the people who have had hangs installed a backup over the new firmware? I did that the first time, and that's the only time I've had any problems. I.e, I ticked the box for "third party programs", and it installed fine. But I had a hang (wayfinder running and switching back and forth several times), and some slowdowns (maybe a second slower than usual on the switches), very soon after that. Didn't work just reinstalling the programs either. And maybe.. it has something to do with how the last firmware updated at least the email- client(or at least you're supposed to download the "exchange activesynch", which seems to be the general e-mail component) and the voip software. (And all of these are running stuff in the background all the time - could be it's something like that that kills the message- app)?
