Wlan IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY with latest firmware.

With the last one (before R7A) it worked for me perfectly, but now it stay connected WITHOUT PROBLEM but the browser do not find the server.

I know I have my lan configured OK because before R7A it worked for me.

This happens to me with the preinstalled browser and with Opera Mini.

Hope SE fix this problem soon.

Might be a local problem then since it works for me and others. Have you tried to delete the wlan-account and config it again? I would also try to test the phone with another wlan if possible.
Just to make sure there is no problem with the connection to one you are using...

@addiecool

No problems with accessing www.ebay.co.uk and no problems with messages in FO mode with the latest firmware. Also no problems with wifi.

At first it wouldn't update for me and kept saying I had the most recent version but I noticed when I let go of the c button that I kept getting an error in Windows saying the device was not functioning properly. I had already turned off Anti virus and Firewall so what I tried was using another USB port and this time the found new hardware box came up and this time it said the hardware was ready to use, the updater then found an update and it updated the software.

Thought I'd post that just in case anyone else here might of been having the same problems as me.

WIFI is acting strangely over here too. Somehow it is not possible to access local servers with internal IPs... just very strange. I run the latest firmware; unfortunately I haven't tried with the old one... Lets see whether this gets fixed.

Purchased my phone in Singapore about 2 weeks back. The firmware details:

Phone: CXC162037 R5A006
Bluetooth: CXC162058 R4F01
CDA: CDA162007/2 R3A03

I'm having the following problems, and would really appreciate it if you kind folks can try it out to see if it works for you:

SEND BUG
-------------
1. Take a picture (flip open or closed doesn't matter).
2. Hit SEND. (This should transfer you to the messaging window)
3. After that, hit the BACK button (the arrow curving to the left)
4. This will bring you back to the camera page, and the picture you had just taken.
5. Now hit SEND again. The application will crash and return to the main menu page.

SOUND RECORDING
------------------------
Has anyone been able to successfully get sound recorder to record a telephone conversation you're having on the phone? Without a call in progress, the recorder works fine. But when you're having a conversation and decide you want to record it, the system will report an error.

CAMERA ZOOM PROBLEM
------------------------------
Has anyone been able to successfully take sharp and clear pictures when you zoom in to the maximum setting of 250%? My 990i cannot do it at all. I'm lucky if after 15 attempts of taking a picture no more than 6-7 metres away from the subject, the autofocus manages to lock in a clear image. Most of the time, the autofocus presents a clear display picture for a split second, before locking on to a blurred image. All the settings are correct. Autofocus on (Normal), etc. Tried all the various file sizes, etc. Still the same.

The best part is that when I took it to my service provider to get it exchanged, their new replacement unit (with the same firmware), also displayed exactly the same problems. I next went to Sony Ericsson and their phone (which I believe initially had the older R4 firmware, seemed to work fine). They told me to leave the phone behind and they would re-load the firmware. Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. So I again asked for their unit which had the older R4 firmware to try. ARRRGH! They had just upgraded their phone too to the new firmware as well (R5), and now that too was behaving exactly the same way.

Can owners of R4 and R5 firmware pleeeease confirm if you guys have the same problem. I'm OK if this is a firmware issue. I can live with that. But I cannot live with a phone that offers zoom capability which doesn't work AT ALL at maximum zoom settings for normal (non-macro) picture taking. Even a $200 camera offers zoom picture taking which actually works.

HELP!!!!

Dine

Just tried the send bug and yes it happens to me but why in gods name would you take the pic...press send then press the back button then press send??????...seems like a silly way to do things to be honest. Either you send the pic or you dont....

The camera zoom problem??, like Ares just said why would you use the zoom and why would you even zoom to the max to take the pic. So far no cam phone even my k800i, which is a 3mp camera and definitely the best pic quality i have seen on a phone so far, but even at full zoom the k800i struggles. Digital zoom is rubbish, i dont use it at all. Also try using macro mode when taking close up pics...it does help you know .
I'll just say this, it might be a 2mp camera but please dont expect miracles from the camera on the p990i...its not that good, its ok for the odd pic here or there but if your wanting good/great quality...buy yourself a decent digi cam...sony does a nice range of them and they are quite small size wise .

Have you updated to the latest firmware, at the moment im running R3B01 organiser version, thats the latest firmware out.

No P series phone ever recorded phone conversations.
It's a Symbian security feature, not a bug.

The phone does not have optical zoom, only *digital* zoom.
Zooming on the P990 will never create sharper images than using PhotoShop to zoom in a regular picture.
This is also not a bug, it's the way digital zoom works.

Can anyone please confirm the locked/unlocked world/european model quesiton for my phone?

My FW stats are:
Phone: CXC162037 R4B001
BT: CXC162058 R4F01
ORG: 162072 R1A14
CDA: CDA162007/5 R1A51

And going into the Service Menu>SIM Locks and checking locks I see:
Network 5 (lock symbol that looks unlocked)
Network Subset 5 (lock symbol that looks unlocked)
SIM 5 (lock symbol that looks unlocked)

When I try to do the Master Reset I get prompted for a password I did not set and don't know.

Phone was bought through China and originated in Europe *I think*, and has UK English and chinese languages installed.

Attempts to update FW result in 'you have current FW". Operating in US on T-Mobile okay right now.

I thought I bought an unlocked phone I could use anywhere and flash FW to, but now it is looking like I am locked to someone somewhere? If I don't know what the original carrier was how the heck do I ever update the FW?

If this is indeed carrier-locked, can anyone talk about how to change back to a world phone? There was a way on my Treo 600 back in the day and with all the smart people on this forum, someone *please* tell me a similar process is available for this phone!....?

thanks!

To get to service menu close the flip and be on the main screen and :

jog dial up * jog dial down jog dial down * jog dial down *

where 'jog dial up or down' means just one click and the * is the bottom left key on the flip.

@DaveDigerati

The default password for Master Reset is 0000, but don't forget to back-up first

@Jah- thanks for the reset pwd- worked perfect. wish that info had been in, oh, the MANUAL ...

Seriously, is there any place where all this info is located? Any central repository/website??? Good grief, for a bunch of techno-elite-early-adopters aren't we a bit pathetic to not throw up at least a wiki of this stuff?!?... if there is nothing out there then WTH I'll throw something up- somebody let me know if there is and I'll save my time for figuring out how to add a note one handed with the flip open....

Love my P990 when it's sitting on my desk though!
