@ Boinng - ignore what mario says, he just comes here to fish for arguements, and really doesnt have anything worthwhile to add.
Why on earth he thinks us Europeans would want EDGE when we have UMTS is misguided. Maybe its Africa thats the slow country - e.g no UMTS.

Motorola had just completed many months in testing with HSDPA being UNDELIVERING on its speed promise to customers from wireless providers. UMTS on its own offers 100Kb/s higher download than a class 10 EDGE device; remember these are peak amounts. On average though EDGE is doing pretty well for us Canadians/Americans avg 80-170kb/s. Nothing to shake a stick at towards UMTS, but nothing to point a stinky finger to either.
Now there is barely even a latency or data improvement for comparable data cards between UMTS vs HSDPA at the current moment. I'm guessing its due to the user saturation at the moment; but not sure. However this is barely phase one. this will change with implementation of phase 2.
I've argued that EDGE has its place for QoS fallback should an HSDPA/UMTS network outtage fails >>for video calls most wouldnt notice a different, yet phone as a modem you'd know right away due to latency issue that EDGE has. 2 of France's networks are rolling out EDGE; but why? Its useless now as UMTS/HSDPA is in testing here in Canada and rolling out in the USA. Its already all over the world so why bother with EDGE?? |

Atlast the new SE smartphone, I've been waiting for this for long to replace my P910i
I love the specs. and are just as I thought but the thing that shattered my dream is its design.... that doesn't fit into a businessman image... I can say the most elegant design was P910 which seem the real businessman buddy and also loved my others because of it grace But with P990 SE really turn down the head, The biggest flaw according to me is its flip pad keys instead of going upward they landed on P900 keys... which I guess no one like they are too skinny to press and doesn't look good (I hate them!!) and the qwert keyboard it was great on other side of flip but now it is embded in phone which also not aprreciatable.
SE P990 lost the pride of its exclusive design by making it resembled to other PDA available which have almost same design except flip, which is now of NO use.
I'm really disappointed with its design more specifically the keys, keyboard position. |

hideous to you but a godsend to others. There is a work around for directional navigation with using the alt key and certain keys that are marked with it - remember the 5 way jog dial is gone so you may wanna keep the numerical keypad around.

I have kept the flip on both my P800 & P910 but when I get a P990 the flip will come off on day one due to it's dated design. It's SE's equivelent of Rover with the Rover 75 lets design a modern car that looks 20-30 years old

Well currently right now in the USA Cingular's HSDPA is averaging between 767-1000Kbps speeds when more than 3 bars signal strength is obtained.

Hello,
Has anyone else noticed how the P910 (in the UK) has disappeared from the web sites of several companies:
o) O2 - no longer listed
o) Orange - no longer listed
o) T-Mobile - no longer listed
o) Vodafone - Still listed
o) Carphonewarehouse - Listed as in stock for Orange only
o) Phones4U - no longer listed
With the Orange web site the P910 was recently listed as 'out of stock' but has gone completely now.
Furthermore a visit to the local Orange shop and Carphonewarehouse shop, showed the P910 wasn't on display either.
Could this be because they're gearing up for P990 production?
I sure hope Sony Ericsson are looking to launch the P990 in January as it looks like the old model has been discontinued and they're no longer manufacturing it.
Putting the launch back to the end of Q1 or even Q2 means another 4-6 months of waiting
Reading between the lines this suggests that the hardware spec may have stabilised and the delays are all down to sorting out the new OS and UIQ 3.
Oh the torture of waiting ... |
