So this is how the business is done.

Good device compromised with the other.

They put most effort to produce X10,
with unbelievable amount of disaster with X2 right now.

I bet you'll soon encounter similar things with the future treatment by SE,
this company is a shame overally.

Fortunately for Android is on the whole a really stable platform and pretty hard to mess up, WM is temperamental at best and SE do not have the best record with SW development.

Although it would seem my earlier concerns about their decision to add another layer of interface to Android "Timescape" and "mediascape" etc have thankfully been satisfied so far.

I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot.

Sooner or later XDA guys will let you take any other UI and put it on the X10 if you want Sense UI for example and the X10 has the hardware can easily run it. The HTC Desire and Legend use the same UI, look at the X10 minis as well with all that eye candy without the need for 1Ghz of power. Older Android even works on my X1

X2 sucks at running anything with its old processor, maybe the X1 ROM with WM6.1 would be most stable on it

For some of you new to the device/andriod type in *#*#info#*#* punch it in on dailer. inside is misc features. One thing that is significant to sone is that you can have your phone accept a 3G signal only. Check it all out its pretty all self explainatory

Hopefully someone that owns an X10 can answer these questions for me. thanks in advance

Q1. Can the X10 be used as a Bluetooth Modem?

Q2. Does the X10 have music controls when the screen is locked and off ie. tap the volume key twice to go the next track?

Q3. Can you start the camera from the lock screen by holding down the shutter button?

These 3 things my Nexus One cannot not do so I'm hoping the X10 can

Well no. What is ironic is the cooked WM6.5 ROMS for the X1 were way better than the current OEM X2 ROMS (observation, I don't have an X2, but it sounds like the X2 is just terrible).

The X10 should fair a lot better though because at least Android has a future. The current version of WM is dead.

Well I got my X10 hand-on about 8 hours ago. Haven't slept all night through sheer excitement. First impressions (although you've all seen many of these first impressions I'll try to put in new points and perspectives):

Setting up the phone to connect to the internet was so easy I didn't believe it had done it.

Sorting out the contacts is a pain in my rear, but that is to be expected with such convergence I guess. Especially with a change of OS to what I've used before. Seemed to create an entry for each email address I have for a person some people have as many as 6 or 7 entries now. I'm having to merge them all.

Interface is fast as lightning.

Size is really good. I was kinda hoping it'd be huge so it has a proper 'look at me' factor but in the hand it feels really slim because the 'human curvature' and the weight being so light. It still has the look at me factor as well.

The back gets a little toastie when using the net intensively for a while, but not any worse than many phones I've had previously.

I tried shortcutting to the camera from the home menu by using the shutter release button. Doesn't work like that apparently.

I've found it very easy to accidentally press the volume rocker in certain circumstances. I'm sure I'll get to the feel of that though and it will happen less often.

In-built web browser is really cool, the under the thumb magnifier feature on there is really good.

Loading media to memory card now so haven't tested all that jazz, but looking forward to it as that's all important for me.

I'm on the R1FA014 firmware but haven't had any problems at all to report yet. May be slightly biased because I'm still in love, but I'll answer questions if you have any. I'll come back with other new things I find.

So far 5 stars for this phone. It's truly tremendous.

It does, but you have to press it deep and long.

You're absolutely right xell. Don't know why it didn't work for me earlier.

Is there a solution for uploading pics to esato? Can't seem to manage it.

@Ricky D.

Amazing phone isn't? You might as well glue it to your hand as you won't be able to put it down for the foreseeable future

Q1 - I'm not too sure about that.
Q2 - No. Which is weird because in early builds of the phone it had a iPhone style mini player.

It would of been cool to have that instead of having to pull down the notification bar when you want to change tracks. I really hope that Sony Ericsson bring this feature back in a future update. There's more on it here... (Need to translate from German to English, from following this link)...
http://www.pocketpc.ch/sony-e[....]eria-x10-erste-eindruecke.html

Q3 - No. I tried this, the only buttons that do anything are Home and Power buttons. All they do is bring up the lock screen.

I hope this helps answer your questions.
