Their problems started in mid-2006 but they did manage to release the X1 which was better than the competition at announcement, then Satio- again superphone at the time of announcement. Last year it was the X10 which was on par with the best except it was outdated in the software department. So, why are you saying they can't afford to compete now when they can but keep making blunders?
The reason some of us lament the lack of progress within SE is because we would like the company to get back to where it was before- at the top of the food chain. We also know what the company is capable of and the fact that it has two powerful parents makes it harder for some of us to accept the harsh reality that SE is fading into obscurity.

Sounds good to me . How likely is it that this will be announced on the 1st October? If so, that would be a long path until March...

I seriously hope they ditch qualcomm as their chip supplier. HTC and qualcomm are to close and SE is always coming in second there. When SE release a dualcore, HTC will already have a phone with krait...
aurelius do you have any news about ST-ericsson? (are they even making money btw? seems no one are using their chips? ) |

March is good for me as that's when my X10 contract runs out! Wow, so the X10 will be two years old by then! And It's still going pretty strong if you ask me! |

+1 used to be the game changer back in the old days.(e.g. S700 and K750)

I'm fully supported this statement, would love to see use their in-house production (at least part of).
If haven't catch up market by release Dual Core Krait almost same time with HTC, I mean stick to MSM8260 at 45nm. Situation could goes worse than today. Better to looking for anew chip supplier.
I really wonder why couldn't access to rich-resources from both parent and use them to work more efficiency. (Multimedia contents from Sony for example)

As someone mentioned a few pages back, the new ST-Ericsson Nova processors are potent.
Apparently Nokia will use the U8500 processors in their upcoming Windows phones. What boggles the mind is why haven't SE ever used these processors before when Ericsson owns half the company? I know Nokia has used these processors before in their Symbian phones.
SE should sign with ST-Ericsson and get these processors. The Nova 9600 seems like a monster of a processor. The 9540 is actually better than anything that is out on the phones today and to think that it is just a step below the 9600 is astounding.
These dual processors are running at 2.5Ghz and 1.8Ghz and are already announced.
I agree with movikt, SE will alwasy play second fiddle to HTC as long as they stay with Qualcomm.
To think that the one parent has access to some serious processors... and some of you wonder why I complain so much about their current performance as opposed to the competition.
How in the world do you go wrong when everything you need your parents can provide at a reasonable fee?
Instead they licence brand names from one parent and ignore some serious firepower.

Please, gods, let the new flagship have a xenon flash! I'd take that over any fancy screen resolution or processor.

Qualcomm platform isn't that bad but they usually stay one step behind competitors at a time,
and primary concerns is about GPU that not powerful enough to compete in same league.
Adreno 200 < PowerVR530
Adreno 205 =< PowerVR540 (a year behind since Samsung runs the PowerVR540 in their Galaxy S)
Adreno 220 < Mali 400 (though this not fairly compare when Adreno 220 is single processor while Mali 400 in S2 is quad unit )
Thank you aurelius for sharing such that information, I really wish they could fix it soon!
Btw, I read some other forum related to hardware processor and someone mention about U8500 and Exynos
They wrote that U8500 has only single core of Mali 400 while Exynos platform is quad.
Anyway I think Samsung couldn't use the fully utilized power because of weakness in software side and battery hindrance.

Wow, Thanks for posting that, I've been Enlightened
So in that Data if we are going to compare it Fairly Adreno 220 that would be equal(=) to PowerVR540 right? but yes, It's almost a year behind but in this article
"That's why our single core chips now are as good as a standard dual core, and our dual core will be as good as a standard quad core.
What's your reaction to this? Are they telling the truth?
"Regardless of GPU and CPU power, we're in a strong position because of our experience of optimising and integrating our hardware with software and the actual user experience,"
They're pretty confident when they said that, knowing that they are a little behind in the competition

IMHO, Adreno 220 (HTC Sensation, EVO 3D) is greater than PowerVR540 (200Mhz Galaxy S version) for 30% but perhaps equal on PowerVR540 (300Mhz TI OMAP 4430 in LG Optimus 3D), anyway I'm not yet see any benchmark compare between these two models.
Adreno 205 is sometime equal or greater to PowerVR540 but a year late when come to market.
Nope, I'm not agreed on that statement especially when come into web page load/render and hardcore graphic games (not much available anyway) dual core dominating those helpless single core. But I understand that try to interpreted as overall user experienced (skin UI) and general software is better optimized (it also late when come to market) than competitors for those single core model to date. Even sometime benchmark doesn't mean anything when come to actual real life experienced

Hard to say I'm not big fan of Korean, but I have to agreed about processor manufacturing is very good one and even bad my iPhone 3G[S]'s processor is also their product as well.
Too bad, I guess TSMC won't available to produce for PS Vita because iPhone 5 also in production as well.
In next few years coming, Samsuung probably to launch new product same as Playstation handheld like they did with iPhone and iPad from Apple.
