@XYZ agree completely
I have given up on Sony. Been using them for 10+ years but now I just feel they are milking their loyal fan base (me). The new lineup is a joke, specially the premium. Sony engineers used to be good at internal design. Now they make big heavy phones with small screens and big bezels. I don't think they even invest money into R&D anymore. Bought Huawei p20 pro, a phone Sony should have made. Three cameras, a larger battery, bigger screen etc in a smaller package than premium.
Xa2 is really nice and imo the best of Sony 2018 but costs 100€ too much to compete |

idea :
Compact = 4.8" Full HD. Size of XZ1c.
Standard = 5.3" Full HD , size of XA2
Premium = 5.7" 4K , bit smaller than XZP
Ultra = 6.0" , QHD
All with Y design , back bit curved like Moto G2.
Big batteries to impress people, something like: 2800mAh , 3500mAh, 4000mAh and 5500mAh
16MP selfie for Ultra, 13 for Premium and 8 for the other two.
Ultra and Premium with dual selfie, connected to AUBE on Premium.
Unlocked 120Hz screen.
All dual sim not hybrid.
Premium with Oled and exclusive rear cam sensors. The rest can share same cam.
Premium and Mid at MWC, Compact and Ultra at IFA. |

I feel you, because I am in the same boat.
Had the Xperia XZ and decided to get the P20 Pro as well. I also bought the S9+ to my wife.
I so wanted the new Xperias to be something special, but I ended up being disappointed yet again.

I think notched phones are too ugly, but it is personal taste. Some ppl love even Pixel design.
Kirin 970 is from last year. GPU is much weaker than Adreno.
Huawei is slow with updates, not LG slow but far behind Sony, 1+ and Htc.
No stabilization on 4K. Videos bitrate are too low.
They dont get the great results with screens they tune.
What made you guys buy the P20? Wasnt Mate 10 duo better idea when internals are same?

My P20 has yet to arrive. I don't care about the GPU power because I more or less never play on my mobile. I would want to buy the S9+ but I can't stand the curved screen.

[RANT ALERT]
Seeing Sony is dying, I don't know if I'm 100% sold for XZ2. I'm still torn between getting XZ2 or S9+ (or even iPhone, if I'm stupid enough). Maybe I'll end up using a non-Sony/Sony Ericsson phone for the first time, for the sake of futureproofing.
I hate notches, I hate oled on a smartphone, I hate curved screen, and I hate rear fingerprint sensor. The flagships are so lame this year. Same design (especially, look at G7, P20, OP6, Vivo and Oppo phones, iPhone X, and others. They look almost the very same, especially the front), nothing new, running out of ideas.
Sony has potential to make the situation a tad better with XZ2P but the phone itself is non-existent (Unlisted youtube videos, unclear launching date, no hands-on allowed, will not be launched in UK and other countries). They are treating their potential customers like some kind of joke or something. The chance are high for them to lose everything or get acquired by other companies.
Lastly, where the bloody hell is that mouthwatering arc-designed phone that was supposed to be the new design language of the current series? Is it going to be in the future phones or just a concept that will never be realised?
I can't hold my anger anymore, I'm sorry.

I do agree with what you said. Though I have already got my XZ2, I am planning to get the XZ2P as well, and yes, Sony had been milking me for a long time.
I am in fact very annoyed, why Huawei managed to develop the sensor with Sony, but Sony themselves couldn't manage it? And why the heck, even moto z6 got the fps on the sides, where sony has to put it on the back like everyone else? And what are the marketing guys doing? They don't even know how to promote the XZ2P! Or did they bother? Or did they even know that this device exist?

Same here! All Moto Z3 phones are rumored to have a fingerprint scanner, embedded into power button, like what Sony used to have. It also sucks to see their marketing team didn't even try to care about their business anymore.

I agree with xyz
Sony is a premium brand
People are not interested in low range bullshit from sony
They have to focus everything on flagships now.
Like apple
This will increase the asp a lot.
I see sony as the apple of android world lol |

So I caved, my battered Z5 battery couldn't last till lunch... Writing this now from my 24 hour old brand new xz2. Think many here are in similar mindset as me so thought would give some impressions:
Positive:
The thickness doesn't bother me as I though it would. It actually is very comfortable to hold
Performance is top notch
Feels super premium and solid
Love the lcd screen (never liked amoled)
Battery is a beast
Games look awesome on 18/9 screens
Just love the software (am using an S8 from my company and just don't like look or design of Samsung)
Music playback with my 1000xm2 from tidal is mental
Stereo speakers are great
Negative:
Seriously slippery, they didn't have cover so am going commando and already know am gonna break/dent it
Bottom bezel is bigger than top, bothers me only in landscape mode
Watching video on 18/9 screens sucks
Thought fp sensor would suit my not massive hands but it is seriously a little to low.
Last thing, and this is minor, but when tapping it on the back hard it feels like the haptic feedback thing moves, it makes it feel hollow and am just wondering if they didn't waste a lot of space inside.
Overall I am happy to have a Sony again and it just is more me than a Samsung. Can't switch my football team which keeps losing either, haha.

Yeah, lol. The camera...
I have always liked sonys natural look and personally prefer the results vs my S8. Low light performance is much improved, as well as speed. Haven't tested video and slowmo yet to much. But in general extremely happy with results.
Can't say much vs p20pro or S9 but definitely for Sony an improvement |
