I think it's not that we're far behind in technology itself, rather that we're lagging in its implementation. I suppose it also depends on factors such as consumer demand, competition between Service Providers, etc. Imho it's merely a matter of time before we're on a better footing than at present moment.

@ BlueQuill,
96% of our primary education institution in the depths of one of London's Asian communities are EAL learners. (English as Additional Language.)
94% of these speak languages from the Asian sub-continent. Thus my Gujerati,Panjabi,Tamil,Bengali,Selheti and your neighbouring country's Urdu are developing steadily.
I remember discussing with mrao quite some time ago, probably with my old username, how I have developed a seemingly insatiable appetite for the sweeter Asian delicacies, like barfi, ladoo, gulabjaman, halva and the more savoury pakora and samosa varieties.
(Pardon any spelling mistakes for any of the above..!)

And with all these treats arriving 'en masse' with alarming frequency in the staff room at this time of year and the month ahead, with Diwali,Eid and Guru Nanak's birthday all in fairly close proximity, there doesn't seem to be any letting up at this stage...better keep an eye on my metabolic rate before I really start battling to fit into my motorbike leathers...

@KID777: Good looking out on the PayPal front...will register tomorrow.
@BlueQuill: I liked your nick the first time I saw it, your always welcome in this house.
Still don't understand how India can be behind in tech when so many IT companies have R&D facilities in that country.

@ brix,
about that cerise cellphone avatar of yours...
I finally bought the wife a J300 today,as her second phone, the Maxon 7922,was just too frustrating without 'touch-tone' and unintuitive UI.Not to mention setting up voicemail, even with user manual at the ready.
The 7922 has the distinction as the world's smallest GSM phone, but this one (the flip-phone in the pic) will be heading off to SA shores next month; a kinda 'hand-me-down handset' for one of my neices;she's only ten.
The J300 is really (ergonomically) well-designed,particularly the back of the handset.Nice ringtones incl. mp3's,funky themes and screensavers, diminutive proportions.
The white OEM fascia came as a standard extra at Tesco.
The 7600 will still serve as her primary handset, but perhaps not for long...
Only thing I'm not too mad about re the J300 is the flem-yellow keypad lighting. Gee,I'm such a fussy wanqa at times...

Good one there wanqsta...The J300 is still not available in SA although the Vodafone-branded K300 has been available for a couple months.

lol @ Wanksta, that's a nasty yellow, boet. You guys catch a news report that the Minister of Telecomms wanted authority to appoint her own ppl to ICASA? Dunno if i heard correctly but she was shot down, vetoed or something similar. Seems only Cabinet makes those appointments. I speak under correction, of course.

Thanks mate!

we do have a lot of IT tech happening in the country, and yes, both mobile and pc users are on the rise, but all this is in a somewhat nascent stage. Just give india a couple of years, and i am sure we will be as good a place as any other for tech.
@amawanqua you got everything right mate! Mmmm....and also made my mouth watering !!

You just know it's going to be one of those days when you wake up to find one earring has hooked itself onto the pillow and is holding you hostage... Nearly tore my ear off when my cellphone alarm went off at 5 this morning Thank heavens there are only two days left till Friday!
btw, nice one there, Wanksta

@da wanqsta: How does your wife manage with the 7600...IMO it's the most awkward design I've ever seen for a phone, it doesn't make ergonomic sense.

I'm picking up the new credit card today and mu first purchase will probably be a phone.

@ brix,
it took us both quite some time to develop any half-decent sms'ing speed with the 7600's.
She's better than me with this, but I have been spoilt (and lazy)with the P900 and its high-speed stylus input.

Having 2 separate banks of keys spaced apart like that is indeed ergonomically so damn frustrating, and you can virtually forget single-handed sms'ing.
Between the 7600 and the Siemens SX1, I don't know how the manufacturers' 'fashion' and design departments managed to get away with these layouts, during initial prototype testing and beyond.
