Thanks for that Sean
Im not trying to knock the XZ1 against Nokia at all. Im aware that all handsets have their faults, like you say maybe im unlucky with this unit. Its still a great handset, well built and very smooth to use.
You are correct about not using flash in those circumstances, but it still shouldn't bleed into the picture, design fault or not.
Anyway im going to flash back to the previous firmware at work today and stay with that until the release. I can see no improvement at all to the camera. Ive just had a look at your night shots taken in your street, pre and post update and I have to say that I prefer the earlier shots.
Thanks to all for the advice given

Hi Del
I did a clean install when I upgraded via SUS and I did a reset last night. Ive taken a couple of shots this morning and I have to say I prefer the earlier firmware. Thinking of flashing back today.
I had a Lumia 920 from EE and had no problems at all.....strange isn't it.
Ive also noticed that I am getting a lot of flash light bleed on the right side of any photos taken in really low light. Have you had any problems like this ? It doesn't happen on close shots just longish distance. I have tried cleaning the lens and flash areas but no difference.
I cant believe ive got this for two years, it has to improve
Hi Lemmy, I haven't really tried many low light shots with the flash but I will tonight to see if there is any flash bleed.
And it is strange how some people get the odd handset that does have loads of problem's, is there any chance of you being able to take it back and change it for another one?
But here's a quick shot I took on superior auto while walking my dog just now which I think is pretty good considering it came from a phone.
And one last night at sunset, again on superior auto.

I've read some comments on different forums about the reboot thing, but it is only a handful. Have experienced one freeze after a couple of day's but that was still with the initial firmware. Have done all updates since and no problems whatsoever with it.

Hi, to all Z1 users: Are you using Image Stabilization for still pictures?. Do you see a difference when on/off besides shutter speed?.
@Bono: In your opinion, is this a worthy/advisable upgrade over the Xperia T, camera wise?.
Thank you all.-

Of course, everything is better on the Z1, not just the camera! |

Yes it is definitely is way better than the T image wise and overall phone. The T had really noisy images. The Z1 though not the best to everyones tastes is a huge step forward especially in terms of detail and noise. This reboot issue happens on alot of phones I even Google it for Lumia 1020 last night although not going to start a phone war. I am going to be out in city centre later this evening a chance to catch some night shots I'll do it well

Have you seen this benchmark? The Nexus 5 gets very good scores, only beaten by the iPhone 5s but this is understandable because it has only a fraction of the Nexus' resolution.
I thought the Nexus 5 score was great...until I tried the benchmark on my Xperia Z1!!
I wonder why my Xperia Z1 actually manages to beat the Nexus 5! I get 15.14 fps while the Nexus 5 has 14.17. I'm close to the iPhone 5s with its 15.4.
Remember, I'm not running 4.4. but 4.2.2. and my clock speed is not 2.3Ghz but only 2.17Ghz (Sony set it this way).
It's funny that my Xperia Z1 which is two Android Versions behind, not running Vanilla Android and clocked lower than the Nexus 5, can actually beat it!
I would say, poor optimization by Google and great job for Sony!

I fitted a screen protector on the back of my Z1 and I noticed it didn't quite fit correctly over the LED flash and I was getting bleed when using the flash, I removed the SP and all went back to normal
I also installed the screen calibration app from playstore and from then noticed some random reboots - uninstalled it and all was fine again, point being that badly written apps can cause issues
If you look at the sample pictures on the previous page they are staggeringly good IMO - I have also taken some great shots with the camera - a couple I took two nights ago in darkness came out really really well, I think superior auto has become inferior since the last update or rather the manual settings have improved making it seem that way, I nearly always take my pictures in manual 20mp mode now
and the video is superb - I ran the video during a thunderstorm at night and was able to freeze the video right on a lightning strike and take a screen shot, it's quite impressive - I might upload them at some stage next couple of days |

Taking my phone in and out my jacket pocket today taking many photos has resulted in my shatter proof sheet having a large scratch Why does Sony use these crap stupid sheets?? Have now had to resort to removing the sheet and I have lost my Sony front logo It still looks ok just no oleophobic coating underneath now grrrrr

Sad to hear that Bono, you should have bought screen protectors for front and back both.

CLEAN THE LED FLASH OF SMUDGES and surrounding area and you wont have flash on right side of pictures... |
