I've managed it with just over 5 months left before. I threatened to leave.

some customers can upgrade 6 months into the contract or with 3 months remaining, depends on what type of customer you are with o2, as in the ammount you spend at o2 etc |

Also, I don't know if O2 Direct (telesales) are the same as O2 Retail, but rather than at the end of each month, the end of each quarter is when the targets are closed. For example, Q3 just ended (July-September) and Q4 just started (October - December) so the best time to try is when the targets are closing in.
My opinions on this forum are that of my own and not of the company I work for. |

Was originally on £35 p/m 1000 xnet and 100 txts with o2 (k800i), coming to an end in december. Have baggd myself an early upgrade (by almost 3 months), and the deal i got is:
Free N95, online 30 tarrif which is 500 xnet mins and 100 txts, normal price £30, i got it for £15, which i think is a great deal however i'm going to phone them again and see if i can pay maybe £5 more an get more minutes.
They originally offered to keep me on the same tarrif i was on but reduce it to £20. however i wanted the new 'unlimited' data bolt on, but they said this was not possible on the old tarrifs, hence why i got moved to one of the new tarrifs. PS my average bill in total is normally £35 for the tarrif plus the £5 or so insurance.
comparing to 2 the deal i have just got (free n95, 3 month early upgrade, 500 xnet min + 100 txts + 200mb data for £22.50 total), id say a lot of ppl on here are getting rippd off, or just not being smart enough.
Just remember, the ppl at retentions r not robots. they are humans, they all work differently, u will get a diff deal from each person every time u ring, there are no 'set' deals, it just depends on the discretion of the person u get, how much discount he has 2 play with at that time etc etc

how did u manage an upgrade 3 months early?!
i can't remember the exact term, but they catergorise customers depending on their value 2 o2. for some reason im a high value customer, however my average bill is normally £40 including insurance. so they let me upgrade early.
i upgraded 2 the online 30 tarrif, which is 500 min 100txts, at £30, however they have done this for half price for the lenth of the contract, which will be 18 months. they sent me the n95 free, although i sent it back as i wanted 2 wait 4 either the n95 8gb or k850i. should be able to get either of those for free, paying £15 a month! bargain |

That is a very good bargain,..
I wish upgrade fees would be cheaper with 02 though I find they milk you for the handsets sometimes

just give them a phonecall on your Upgrade day and see what they say
be nice if they'd let me have my current contract for £15 per month with a free phone, I do have a letter of 02 saying next time I can upgrade and get a free phone lol
I want a £15 tariff though cos i also want the data if not it's over to 3.

Can I ask how do you guys negotiate upgrades like £20 a month for a free K850i?
I can't seem to get anywhere near that, I got told that it was rediculous + £35 a month for a 12 month contract, I think not. |

If anybody is wanting an iphone my friend has just started at an o2 call centre and said that it will be going to customers with £70+ bills per month. Can anybody who works for o2 clarify this?
I'm due an upgrade at the end of November, but thought i'd stick it out another year if they offered me this but there is no way i spend £70 per month on my bills.
