One question though, why didn't you consider a WM smatphone instead, is it the screen? |

I think you'll know instantly know him when you get to see him, coz you'll just recognize him out of his swollen pockets, and hansets dropping all over and around

Thanks a million deido for the video, in fact it confirmed my own impressions about the pros and cons of the phone that I already checked on mobile-review.
While on the one hand the reviewers confirm the build quality, design, screen, etc as obvious pros, on the other hand they also confirm – in my opinion- the killer cons. To me, those are mainly:
-Bluetooth compatibility (whether as a gprs modem or for more common file exchange purposes.)
- The MS docs viewers, it’s so disappointing to have a WM5 phone and not have means of viewing office docs.
- A special concern of mine is about the WiFi. The specs of the SP5 claim an 802.11b module. As far as I know, the “b” protocol is the oldest among WiFi protocols, on the other hand, the “g” protocol is by far more widely spread and also the “g” is compatible with the older “b” protocol. My concern is: WiFi providers might have or might already be replacing hardware to be compatible with the more spreading protocol, the “g” protocol. So that’s another disappointment waiting to blast in your face when you’re sitting in a place you know to be WiFi covered, but OOPS, the protocol your phone supports is outdated.
Maybe someone else can share some other thoughts out loud with us.
As for the other concerns the reviewer pointed out, to me they’re minor, little things you get used to.

mahora you won't find any wifi G only all the G wifi will be b/g compatible so this is not a big issue
the design of the sp5m is better than sp5 even the style
the bad point in this 2 phones as every body said and in my opinion too is the missing of any office viewer we really need
any way I think we will soon find a 3rd party software for that issue

Do you mean there is no (or there can’t be) a phone with a wifi “g” only module? Don’t you think the SP5’s incompatibility with the “g” protocol a big minus?
As for the design, I personally prefer the SP5's more professional and stricter outlook, but the last time I checked, the SP5m was the only version available at Phono's.
One more thing I read somewhere about the aluminum of the sp5m, it wears out or something, you might want to dig out more on that matter.

Wifi b and g are like USB1.1 and 2.0 they can comunicate together but at the slower speed.
BTW, how can an imate not have MS office readers? Heck SE does since P910 and its not even a microsoft partner.
For a while almost all silver phones peeled quickly and you'd see the white plastic underneath, maybe that's what happens? |

Do you mean that though the SP5 has only a “b” module, it’s still capable of dealing with the “g” protocol? If that’s the case, and I understood you correctly, then that’s really good news, coz it blows the incompatibility issue, even if the speed is a little slower when the protocols relate to each other, but still it’s better than not relating at all.

Yes. So don't worry. It'll also be compatible with any future protocol using the 2.4GHZ band, at least I think so.
I don't want a signature anymore. |

IMO, i find it useless to have wifi in smartphones like this one.....with no input method except the numerical keypad (the main problem of smartphones)..., just think about it...if u want to check ur email on hotmail....u'll have to type the following: www.hotmail.com, then username :something@hotmail.com, and pass :********.........man, that's what i call it PAIN...let alone typing an email message ...
the main drawback i think in such phone is lacking MS viewers.....now, even the new nokias have MS viewers + Adobe reader...

If you’d look a little step beyond, you’d see the main attraction and temptation to have wifi. It’s not internet, (as in addition to what you said, there’s the handicap of the small screen), but rather, you’d see SKYPE, that’s the main attraction.
However, skype still haven’t established itself well with such gadgets. For instance it’s not officially compatible with smartphones yet, although there are other ways of having it on them, yet it’s still sometime before it’s available normally on smartphones.

What about the favorites?
What about the pocket msn and the feature of saving your password and user name?
Also if you are on the run any way with wifi Smartphone I think it's good to have at least a small look to your e-mail for free
I agree with you and with every body about the MS Office viewer
But totally the SP5m is a great phone
Any way if any body needs to buy it in Egypt I'm offering it with full package used like new with memory card 256 MB for 2500 LE
Just call 0124730791 (my 3rd line)
