I have just tried updating and have received this:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Your device is not permitted to use this service

Your operator does not approve the use of this service with this device.
We look forward to assisting you again soon.
Thank you for using the Sony Ericsson Update Service

------------------------------------------------------------------

I have tried a different sim (voda & orange) but the same result. The phone is not locked!

Any ideas please.

I just now completed the updating my k700 through SEUS and got the R2AE033, but be warned...

It also updated the phone with the WRONG phone language pack. I got the pack for baltic languages installed instead of nordic which I had before, (Swedish phone).

I still have not figured out how to solve this. The support said that I should send it to manual service, but I'm unwilling to do that because I have flshed the phone from branded Vodafone to unbranded. If anyone have an idée, I'm listening...

I've got the same problem: The Greek menus option is lost from my phone after upgrading to R2AE033 though SEUS today. All I have now is English. And of course I cannot get Greek back through SEUS, cause now when the SEUS application checks my phone it can't find it had Greek before

SEUS seems to be more of a problem than a solution afterall

On my phone all you need to do is mute the phone. From the main screen press and hold C until the crossed through musical note icon appears in the top left corner of the screen. Mine is regional version EU_2.

That's weird. I just checked, and I'm R2AE033, EU2 as well... and turning it on silent doesn't work. Read somewhere it was due to privacy issues, preventing people from taking photos of other people without them knowing...
The only workaround I've found was to call my voicemail and launch the camera while connected.

C key does not work, it is the hash key.

You are probably right about the regional version thing. I have R2L with the EU_4 customisation. In R2A041, I could mute the camera by selecting the "Meeting" profile, but this is not longer possible in R2L001. I mailed the Swedish SE support, and they said that the possibility to silence the camera was actually a bug which was fixed in R2L for the Swedish version of the phone. So according to them, it shouldn't be possible to silence the camera at least in the EU_4 version of the firmware.

By the way, quoting doesn't seem to work when using Safari 1.2.4 on MacOS 10.3.7 - I had to add the quote tags myself...

I am fairly sure that sliencing the camera is only possible if you update your firmware through DaVinci or another unofficial update service.

I think its time we stop and reassess the current SEUS situation with UK branded phones. While the earlier posts and specifically the first post in this thread states that orange uk and tmobile uk will work, while O2 and voda wont, it seems that right now, all 4 of the uk networks have stopped users from updating via SEUS.

I have just got hold of a dss-25 and tried to update my
R2A041 Tmobile UK branded k700, and get the "your device is not permitted to use this service" message. Orange users get the same.

So Mrwarner, please make this very clear at the start of this thread so that other people dont make the mistake of believing the info here and waste money on a dss-25 like I did (no wonder it was so cheap on ebay, the thing is now useless in the UK!)

Not just the 4 uk networks, but most of the networks have stopped the updates happening.
This is because of all the problems in updating the phone is causing.

You have only got to look on here for the latest faults and problems the update is causing.

I like a service to work, not to render my phone usless when i update.

It not due to update issues though it is. Otherwise why do SE still provide the update for unbranded phones? And why have O2 and Voda ALWAYS blocked the update?

Yup, the SEUS was buggy before and still is up to now that's why I dont try using it anymore! It's really weird that the other unofficial solutions work better than the official one (as in my case)..I've seen/read more problems with SEUS than all the unoffial ones combined. I dont think se realizes the gravitiy of the situation we owners are getting into everytime the SEUS f***s up our phones..Cmon se WAKE UP!

@sweetmate

As requested, I have noted that support for all UK branded mobiles on SEUS has been removed since the introduction of R2AE033.

If anyone can still perform updates on a branded phone (from any country), let me know and I will note this in the first post.

I have been saying for weeks now in various threads that the update service is still not working correctly yet people still try and use it!

It sounds strange but you would be better off using the unofficial solutions. At least then you can control what firmware region and language pack goes on your phone!

I recommend using SETOOL for silencing the camera shutter. When you download this it gives you the xml file which you can edit. The camera shutter sound is a true or false value, then you update firmware and you have silenced shutter, or you could use SETOOL to replace the shutter sound. I think the shutter sound is in AMR format. As soon as EMMA II is back up I will be able to try and replace the shutter sound plus a few message tones too! Can't wait!

@gwendal

Go here for information on Setool server. To use setool, need either a T28 serial cable or a Fighter USB cable for fast flashing. Then you will need to purchase a Credit, 1 for unlocking and another for flash. (decustomize/upgrade)

Because the platform sends bogus messages while charging, that is why!!!..But why this change of heart?..We sense a charger connected, oops, we will not shut down after all!!!..*********************** UI BASIC, HOLD YOUR HORSES
