Have you guys seen those new samples posted today by GSMArena? Is it just me or do they look truly impressive? They're all indoor pictures and the amount of detail is astounding IMO. |

The final picture processing engine is still not ready and hence currently Z1 uses similar processing as Z/ZL, with the new camera firmware (possibly out in October) the camera quality will jump much higher.
Well that's awesome! So, BIONZ mobile is still not configured, if I understand correctly?
Cheers,
Miki
Well yes but also the JPEG processing algorithm mainly.
I hope the the over/downsampling improves a lot! Right now it's very bad, IMO. Simple resize from 20.7MP in Photoshop produces much better results.
They should also add a 5MP mode.
Examples, IMO, more impressive than Lumia 1020's 5MP images. Not sure about 808.

I have not heard much about the audio capabilities (no pun intended).
That is the only thing preventing me from pre–ordering. I have seen that Samsung are flaunting their 24bit audio capabilities and want to know just what the Z1 is capable of. |

How can it be that every other Android manufacturer can get over 10 hrs of video playback and Sony can`t?
The Z was rated for 5.5 hurs in the white paper and that is what GSM Arena got on the test. The ZU is rated for 7 hrs and the Z1 with a much smaller display is rated for 6.6 hrs. Hopefully the Z1 can do better than that.
LG G2 vs GS4 vs ZU vs Z

I want to come back to a Sony Mobile I love The Z1 but the most important thing is built in memory 16gb is no way enough now a days with so meny apps that use only built memory like sky downloads bbc downloads Spotify podcasts how can they only bring 16gb only 32 gb is at lest a minimum and thats pushing it for top of the range mobile you should have the option for 16 32 & 64gb memory built in is it just me that thinks it?? Im sure as lest %50 of people in this forum need at lest 32gb whats the point in having a top of the range z1 if you cant use it Sony??? If they bring a 32 it will be by xmas might as well wait for the z2 then if sony change there minds!
What dose the forum think about my views? |

One would assume Z1 should do a little better than G2 because of the smaller screen but that logic fails upon seeing that Z1 is estimated lower than ZU in terms of watching videos.
However, I believe it's primarily due to software and things should look a lot different couple months from now.
@Lostsoulz; I agree, the 32GB is the bare minimum.

I think that the battery gets drained by the display and only so much can be done with software to correct it. |

But don't Z1 and ZU share the same type of screen? |

impressive #s by the G2.
seems to me that bravia engine and x-reality are big battery drains. i'd be curious how much of a difference it is to turn these two off.
G2 has same size battery and similar size screen. I would expect similar performance from the Z1, so that i would like to see. The Z only has 2230mah. ZU is also 3000mah like the G2 and Z1, but has a bigger screen, which would account for the 3 hours less of video playback.
My guess is Z1 would have similar times as the G2 with bravia and xreality turned off and slightly beat the S4 with them turned on.

@Shotokan: Root access is possible without unlocking bootloader. However, it is better that your phone is rooted to unlock the bootloader. If you want to uninstall docomo bloatware and edit certain software, root access is all that is required. Unlocking bootloader means you want to flash an entirely new firmware/ROM. I'll stick with the Docomo software first. If it lags too much and hinders the phone's capabilities, I will try to find ways to root and uninstall it.

On paper they do but isn't it odd that the ZU is rated for 7 hrs video playback and the Z1 is rated for 6.6 hrs with a much smaller display? |

Sure, I just hope that since Z1 is newer than ZU, software may be lacking so Sony went with a conservative assessment in the white papers. Because if screen type and SoC are identical, and Z1 being a lot smaller in screen size, the only remaining thing is the software issue.
