I just noticed something on SE site. In their product information page they promote the M600 as the ultimate messaging device whereas the P990 is referred to as the ultimate smart phone. P1 is not listed yet |

That depends on which site you are using! Europe has it listed!!

Merlyn101, I wasn't talking about the product list, you are right it does list the P1. It's the flash animation that I meant. It also makes sense for P1 not to be included since it is not available
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

The M600, unlike the P1, is predominately a messaging phone - that's what it was designed for and promoted as. Of course it also runs UIQ3 so it's useful for many other things, but it lacks the camera and wifi that made the P990 a flagship smartphone (albeit a rather flawed one).
The P1 is not a successor to the M600, but a development of the P990, complete with camera and wifi, combined with the very useful form factor of the M600. SE call it a smartphone, and the "5th generation" of the P series. It certainly won't be the last smartphone or P series successor they make, but it's certainly going to be the dominant model for the latter half of this year and good chunk of next.
Those of us who have used and loved the M600's design are all going to run out and buy this phone, because it's a superior design to the old flip; everyone else is going to carry on muttering about it not being a proper successor, and will just have to wait longer to see the supposed "proper" P990 remake, which may be revealed later this year (for launch next year). The joke is really on them, because whatever the next set of specs look like, no flip-designed phone is going to be as usable as the P1.

Whilst I agree with almost all of what you say here, I must disagree with you regarding the absolute superiority of use the P1 seems to offer over P Series Flip devices.
I am fortunate to own both the W950 and the P990 and (for me) only the P990i (with flip attached) offers truly one handed operation, agreed you can use the w950 one handed but for me it requires some nifty hand play so for me the matter of P1 usability is no quite so cut and dried as it may be for you.

My feelings exactly. Personally, the flip is a requirement for me. I have used the P990 without the flip for a few weeks just to get the feel of it and have confirmed that the flip makes the phone easier to use on many occasions.

I decided not to buy P1 and wait for the next P series, but it was not because I need a flip (I removed one in my P990) but because of better specs that I expect. At this moment I cant justify to spend a lot of money by seling P990 and buying P1 even P1 will be fantastic in multitasking and functionality in general.
One thing I do admit, the form factor is amazing. I started to prefer small and slim beasts although 2.8" screen would be much, much more appreciated:-) |

It also says "Priset är preliminärt och skall inte jämföras med det slutliga priset, lägg en förhandsorder och du kan bestämma om du vill köpa den när priset är fastställt och artikeln finns leveransklar."
This means price is due to change at launch and you should only consider this price as a guideline. |
