@ brix,
I suppose one could assume I have a disliking towards the Evil Empire, but I'm no Nokia-hater. I have been recently tempted by the likes of the N70 and 3250,as you may also have gathered from reading a few of my posts over the past week or so.My 7600 still serves me well too,but maybe I just get puzzled by Nokia's omission of certain features and design elements.I won't dispute that their huge market R&D department knows a WHOLE lot more than the Wanqing One probably ever will,in his attempt to think rationally about handset designs, targeted markets and specific features.
I can go with the fact that they (the L'Amour range) are targeted at the fairer gender, but I would've assumed (perhaps incorrectly,it seems,)that things like Bluetooth, even for ladies who might only use Bluetooth for maybe headsets when driving to the next 'exec' meeting (you know, the whole suave, sophisticated 'Ms.Independent' thing),rather than going shopping for groceries at Pick n'Pay or Woolies or wherever, and would've thus expected BT to be a natural progressive inclusion in the latest fashion incarnation after the somewhat dubious and not-too-successful 7280...
But hey, that's only my humble opinion, and colours are very much a personal thing, perhaps en vogue shades are truly higher up the pecking order of things than Bluetooth et al for the ladies...a very general statement, but one that Nokia's marketing dept. seems to have reacted to quite emphatically with these 3 new 'fashion' handsets.
Having said all that, the more conventional 7270 does have BT.
Bleuurggh, enough of my time and energy pondering the 'character' of these 3 new phones,I need caffeine again!
Lemme go put the kettle back on...

Come to think of it, I've never seen a lady wearing a BT headset...looking like Buck Rogers is strictly the male preserve.

Nokia's trying too hard to keep up their figures, imo. I mean, surely more thought and planning could've gone into those phones! I agree, they should have included BT if nothing else.

@ brix,
Yeah, hence my mention of possibly the only ladies I myself have seen wearing BT headsets,ie. a few high-flying female execs behind the wheel of their company car or pool car.
I would have thought that this was a prime L'Amour targeted market area, but perhaps Wanq Man has got it wrong,as this seems to be a very small proportion of the female sector indeed, unfortunately.
I guess that wearing one other than when driving also might cause people to think that this is an absent-minded or forgetful secretary who has wandered too far from her office, without taking the switchboard headset off! LOL!
Certainly the very vast majority of ladies here don't wear them either.Somehow pushing a pram or shopping trolley, usually accompanied by kids, doesn't generate or conjure images of BT headsets being worn, to mind.
Having said this,as my sister runs various errands in the company pool car for her work in EL,she finds the HBH-600 BT headset particularly useful....but I guess she is probably the only lass that uses one in EL...well probably, anyway!

@wanqsta: I'm just curious, what digital services do you use e.g FreeView, Sky Digital, HomeChoice, NTL?

On the subject of EL ladies, a good friend of mine in Norwich recently sent his girlfriend in EL a new phone. I think she mentioned that it was a Nokia, resplendent with BT headset and all. Doubt she uses it much though, since she walks the kilometre or so to work (Spar, Gonubie) and doesn't drive...
The converse also appears to be true. I've seen numerous biz types wearing headsets yet never seeming to receive calls...

I called Vodacare this morning asking whether I could "downgrade" the firmware on my K700i and the guy said it would "kill" my phone...will take it back in when I have some time off work next week, in the mean time I've got to get myself another phone.

@ brix,
I feed Rupert Murdoch's empire.I used to have NTL,when they were still Cable and Wireless. But Sky offered more for virtually the same money.
We have the fairly comprehensive Sky family package, which costs us £19.50 a month.
Also,NTL couldn't install Cable TV at our new address 2 years ago.Lastly,Sky's customer service was much more reliable and professional.
Sky Digital over NTL's cable anyday, even with NTL's new 3-in-one promotion.(Broadband, phone and cable tv.)
@ Kryptik,
Gonubie..I miss the place, now incorporated into the Buffalo City metropolis and administration.
The Gonubie Hotel along the beachfront was a real 'jol' spot on the weekends when I was a student in the early 90's ,and the Hotel's disco (dik-skou) was usually an eventful place to be hanging around back then...
and the long Boardwalk along the beach, from the carpark became somewhat of a 'Lovers' Lane'... |

@wanqsta: Are you using the SKY+? How many channels do you get with the Family Pack as opposed to what we get locally with DStv( which I think is the biggest con, thankfully I'm not feeding the bastards).

@ brix,
we have not subscribed to Sky+,as we do not watch enough tv to justify the upgrade. For sure, the benefits of recording 2 live programmes simultaneously, the ability to pause live tv and rewind etc. is great, but we would hardly use it.The Sky+ box has thus an integrated recorder. We still ahve our trusty,soon-to-be-retired video machine coupled to the Sky decoder suffices for our nedds.
Further info for Sky+:

As regards the family package, you get virtually all the channels available,of which there are well over one hundred! Here's the guide as to what is all available:
http://www.sky.com/skycom/tvguide
If you subscribe to the additional, optional Skysports premier channels, you get 4 extra channels of live sport, most of which is football. The other is the Sky premier movie channels, which has about 8 channels plus 4 Disney channels.
I don't bother with these,as the Family Package has Eurosport etc. already, which shows my beloved MotoGP racing and World Superbikes.
I only yearn for Skysports when they show international cricket, but after the dismal world XI performances,it hasn't been too much of a train-smash.
The NZ Black Caps seem to have a relatively good start to their tour of SA so far...

@da wanqsta: Don't bet on the Black Caps, I've got a feeling deep down in my gut that we'll easily win the series- don't know about the 20/20 stuff though.
Thankfully all the test matches are still broadcast on my fav propaganda network.

Never say never... I've got a nasty feeling the Black Caps may just pull a wabbit or 3 outa the hat. I'm not much of an armchair sportsman but i do know that our boys have the knack of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Just went onto the Vodacom4me website and I notice they're offering an email service, but here's the catch...at R29 for PAYG subscribers and those without a Meg500 data package.

Speaking of email accounts, have any of you ever checked out www.excite.com?
They offer 125 megs of storage, pathetic I know compared to the 2.5+ gigs of Gmail or the 1 gig or so of Yahoo, but you can personalise your excite home page so much.
They also have a handy 'audio' search alongside web, images and video search options, which has come in very handy for looking up free music,in different formats, on the net...
Type in the song, save target as and if it isn't a pay site's song that you have selected,it'll start downloading.Just check the length of the song, format etc. to check if it's the real or full song that you are about to download.
Sorry if this is old news, but maybe to some it isn't.
