Late May Early June is the newest date I just read on the blog.

That's not what they say (or at least mean to say). Please read again, especially the last part (quoted below).
We we would like to clarify that above mentioned “challenges” have already been addressed by our SW engineering teams. For instance, we have not only optimised the RAM management by making the RAM usage for internal apps as good as possible, but we will also introduce a Performance assistant at start up when running ICS. In this Performance assistant, you can enable and disable certain services that you might not want to run on your phone, in order to optimise the performance of your phone.
We have also worked with quite a few partners in regards to architecture optimisations for SQL handling. In addition, we have also optimised the hardware usage. And as a result of this article, a number of app developers have notified us that they are evaluating if HW optimisation will be needed or not for their apps.
The aim of this article was to share our knowledge regarding the different characteristics for ICS and Gingerbread in an open way, as we strive to have an open communication with the developer community. All in all, we would like to point out that it’s our clear aim to deliver an as good ICS update as ever possible. As you might have seen on the Sony Xperia Product Blog, we’re not far from releasing it now. Thanks for all the feedback!

It's cool that they updated the original article, or at least issued a new blog post to address the feedback to the original article. But in the first one they did make it sound like users should think very carefully about upgrading to ICS, which does not inspire confidence or joy.

This is not more different than when you upgrade Windows on your PC to a brand new version. Windows 7 had more features than XP when it came, but at same time was also more unstable and required a couple of updates before it gradually stabilized. Probably same with 4.0 and that's why you get the option to upgrade "now" or wait a while.

There is a pre-release leak of the ICS (non-beta) Arc rom on xda. Any of you guys had a go on it yet? I want to but can't bothered to set up my phone again after the system wipe, especially if it's going to be not quite polished.
EDIT: I installed and I'm am lovin' it !

Thank you aLan.
when I backup the apps and games will it backup the data from the apps and games? Like will it backup the saved game data so I can continue at the same level after the Android OS update? If not is there a way I can find and back that data up myself? Where is the data from apps saved and where is the game progress saved from games?

it will be saved in \\data\\backup
the old SE backup and restore program will not back up your apps and games data,
for me i only use it to bacup and restore my text messages, call logs, and bookmarks others won't work.
There are some apps in market that can backup games data, like angry birds. some apps would save data in SD card so when they are reinstalled the related data is still in SD card, search through your SD card for folders created by your app.

This sounds like something I wanna do! My phone is locked to the carrier "Telenor" in Sweden. Is there anyway I can flash this rom to my phone?? If its not to much to ask, could a friendly soul please tell me how?? What program to use in my PC and where I can find this??
I tried to read out some of it on XDA but got totally lost.
EDIT: Its ok to PM if its to much info...
