Funny how it doesn't look like the back is made of glass. Of course there is that case it's in, and the fact that the pics label it as a dummy unit... does make you wonder if they are going to move away from glass backs

I think it is a dummy phone though.

Well yeah it is a dummy phone as I noted. The name of the photos indicate it's a dummy unit, and there's no branding on the unit.

Usually dummy units are at least made of the same materials as the actual product though. I just found it odd that the material didn't appear to be glass on the back.

I'm sorry King-James, Kaz can't hear you over Sony's forecasted profit. He's too busy having fun watching PS4 sell gangbusters and selling imaging sensors to everyone on earth in some form or another.

You're barking up the wrong tree mate.

Kaz retiring because you don't like the Z5's design...?

I do really hope they are hiding something about the camera. It's their last saving grace for Z5, a major camera upgrade.

Although, fps is an upgrade, I agree Z2 to Z4 users won't feel the need to upgrade.

They've been using the imx220 for 2 years now this coming September which started in the Z1 (Announced on September 2013).

I do wish that their camera upgrade cycle.

Sort of wish Sony designed their own custom SoCs. I think prioritising larger lower clocked cores is better than having 8 cores at a higher frequency. I mean look at Apple's own cyclone cores. The Ax socs perform comparably - if not better than equivalent Exynos or Snapdragon Processors.

It's just a different route to achieve similar thing. Since Cyclone cores are big you can't use many of them and multicore performance is significantly worse.

i doubt sony hasnt financial power to develop a mobile precessor , they'll invest 3,6 billion dollar to expand sensor business.it's not that hard to license an arm core to desing a new processor for a firm like sony.

'-XYZ' quoted Cyclone cores as an example so he probably meant designing custom cores from the scratch instead of using ARMs design. It would be too expensive, there will be no space for failure and more importantly - Sony doesn't sell enough phones to make it profitable.

Not just him. Sony's bashed for over a year about using the same design. People have enough, Sony's loosing hell a lot of money because of it and they're simply lucky that other divisions are making money. They won't sell more phones with old design.

all this talk about sony using the same design year over year. it is the same design language, yes. but there are incremental changes to the actual details of each device. this is the same with all manufacturers out there. there is no smartphone manufacturer out there that is busting out a brand new design language every year or every 2 years or every 3 years for that matter. it just seems more noticeable with Sony because they have been releasing, essentially 2 flagships a year plus an array of other mid/low level devices whereas the other big guys (Apple, Samsung, HTC, LG) stick with one main flag, one phablet. Can you really say that either of those other guys has changed their design so drastically? The most they have done is change their materials. Otherwise, the iphone has looked the same since the iphone 4 with small differences.

as others have said, it doesn't make sense to push out new designs that often in this day and age. right now, it is more about what the phone can do vs. what the phone looks like. it's been a little over 2 years since Sony first introduced the omnibalance design. That's not that long at all. it just seems repetitive cause of all the devices Sony has released.

I challenge anyone to show me another manufacturer's flagship that has had major design changes in the last 2-3 years. Changing the size doesn't count either. If you can't do it, then there's no reason to bash Sony for going with the flow.

It's not the same with all manufacturers. And changes aren't incremental - they're unnoticeable. I'm not talking about ditching the whole design language but some deep refresh would be nice. Samsung did the same design 2 years in a row (S4, S5) and their income dropped significantly, major refresh (S6, it carries the same design language as S5 an S4 just updated+new materials) and it worked - S6 sells well (midrangers don't but that's another story). HTC - 3 years in a row with the same design and no noticeable differences (just like Sony) and they're close to bankrupcy. Design does matter and it should be regularily changed/refreshed o that people can feel that they have something new. If they don't they'll just buy something else.

this will be the end of the 2nd year of omnibalance. rumor is 2016 brings a refreshed design.. so it's about the same timeline as other companies.

we'll just have to see if the new one is enough to wow consumers .. i certainly think so. sony doesn't tend to disappoint when it comes to design .. and leaked photos NEVER do a phone justice.

Agreed. When the real phone is announced, and the real photos revealed, I believe many of you will jizz in your pants. I'm hoping Sony has solve the 810 heating for this phone.(If its really using. Still hoping for Helio X20 but unlikely xD)

Sony does not sell as well as samsung, apple, lg and some other brands not because of incremental design over 3 years but for lack of or non existent marketing/availability/carrier support and maybe also 2 main flags a year that ruin anticipation and media hype, etc. even if the incremental design changes would be more significant i doubt it will significantly affect xperia z sales if at all.
