@rency - ISO is up to 6400 in 8mp manual mode only. Sweet panorama could be better, and it should be Hi-Res. They have it, but i'm not sure why they don't implement it on the phone camera software. There is a 360 photosphere app that you can add to the Z1's camera social apps, though it's not by Sony. HDR toggle on screen would be nice. Though it's not terribly inconvenient to go through the menu as it's only one level down.

I've compiled some of
Xperia Camera Apps suggestions:
1. Inspired from Playmemories Camera Apps
Motion Shot – can capture up to 120 8-MP frames and can use 3-15 superimposed frames to portray an action in a single photo
Time Lapse – Can capture intervals of shots of up to 30 minutes and make a video out of photos captured
Bracket Shots – can capture 3 photos with different brackets: Shutter Bracket, Aperture Bracket, Focus Bracket and Flash Bracket (plus Exposure Bracket)
Bulb Photography – can capture in a variable shutter speed of maximum 30 seconds; can use the Smartwatch for remote shooting
2. Third-party apps coordination
Square with Instagram – can shoot square photos and 15 second video and directly upload to Instagram
Split-Pic – like the popular iOS app; can shoot multiple pictures in a single frame and can edit the shot which you can split the images in a same scenario
Google Photosphere – 360 degrees panoramic shot for Google+
Manga shot – real time camera capture of live to manga-style pic; can edit manga actions and background before or after the shot
Dual-shot – Similar to Galaxy phones, can shoot using both front and rear cameras and use frames for picture-in-picture
Photobooth – Can upload PNG file and edit layout of maximum 4 shots; can have self-timer for how long every picture to be taken
3. Video Apps
Slo-Mo – can record 480p120 or 720p120 videos with an option to hold the “slo-mo” button for a portion of the video to be in slow motion
Karaoke – can download MIDI (minus-one) with lyrics package of a certain song layered on top of the video and start recording while the song is playing; can put a scoring feature if possible
Chroma Keying – can use any of a video (or a still picture) then using a green or blue background, you can adjust the chroma settings and record a video like a weather news reporter.

BY the way aperture priority will make photo more subject depth in the image ,so the camera aperture can be controlled by software not by hardware, this feels cool and we can take the photo making deblur on background images as we do it in SLR.Awesome
Thanks vivtp for this information and makes Z1 more potential .Hurray |

I asked zomg if the big camera update he spoke of in September was one of these updates, or if that's still to come. Hopefully I get an answer.
I should have my very own Z1 within the next month. Possibly sooner, depending on when my friends get their stuff together to get my bday gift I was hoping Sony would have the power case for Z1 ready to go ASAP, but I suppose still no word on that.
Hmmm... going to have to do some research on oleophobic protectors for the Z1 and place an order sooner rather than later.
Can't wait! |

A recent post by zomg. The first part is in response to my mini preview of the Z1 at a Sony Store and it still having the poorer panels.
Hmm, that's odd. My source is very sure that the C6906 version is built separately and wouldn't get any of the older panels. It could be that the demonstration model is a C6903 with C6906 software overlaid to get them into stores faster.
On a different note. I just had a preview of 4.3.1 for the Z1! It's very, very smooth and it brings some nice UI touches. It also comes with another camera software update, the compression ratio right now from RAW -> JPEG is around 80%, this will be lowered to around 60% which will mean fewer compression artifacts and a generally smoother appearance, especially at ISO50-400, the downside is that it doubles the size of the JPEGs. Eventually they want to have selectable quality like you get in proper camera, normal, fine, super fine which should be 80%, 60% and 50% compression. No word on RAW output, but after Nokia's move my source said Sony are looking at adding it for the Z1, Z, ZL and ZR. Finally, they are also looking to add an aperture priority mode with selectable aperture and exposure values, that would only be for the Z1 though. The source said by the end of January, the Z1 will be better than most digital compacts, and better than pretty much every other Android phone, and it should be competitive with the 1020, though the 808 is still out of reach.
Also, got some news for next year's flagship camera module, it retains the 20MP, f2.0 but the sensor size may increase from 1/2.3" to 1/2.0" (30% increase in area) but it is very early in development so they may stick with an updated version of the 1/2.3" sensor with better light gathering characteristics (a full silicon respin of the current sensor, essentially).
Sorry I couldnt find the original post. Can you please share a link? Thanks. |

What zomg said about aperture priority mode makes absolutely no sense because it's not possible unless there's aperture blades in the Z1's G Lens, which doesn't seem like there is any. What aperture priority is, it allows one to set the aperture value and let the software take care of the rest, though you can mess with exposure, ISO, and white balance. Which is essentially what our current manual mode is doing since we can't stop down from the fixed F2.0. So yeah, everyone, do not get your hopes up with Aperture priority mode, since we kind of already have it. |

So with that one, Sony could also do what the Nokia Refocus app can? I'm looking forward to it!
I'm getting one on November now, i'll just wait for Sony Mobile PH to step down a little for me to reach the price (maybe 35k if they can). |

Bro just to correct you,in digital camera, aperture mode can be created < F2.0 using software to control its IRIS(hole),so it is possible if at all ZOMG info is correct

Well that's a great one for sure, but I'm much more excited for the whole changes in the camera ecosystem.
How about the Landscape scene? On this one, the aperture should be lower since it needs background and foreground avoid the blur. What is the aperture value for the Landscape mode on Z1? |

you can't control the size of the aperture opening without the existence of aperture blades.
i'd like to know if the Z1 camera module has aperture blades or not.
if it doesn't then it is fixed f2.0 and there's nothing software can do to thcnage that.
@rency - it's fixed at 2.0 . none of my photos have a different aperture. which probably means there are no aperture blades to allow for adjusting it. otherwise, the auto settings would do this for us and we would see different aperture settings in EXIF.

The ONLY thing that's missing is for the screen to stay ON while charging. I'm not sure why that setting isn't in the Z1 as it was on my XS :/ If anyone can figure that out, let me know.
I think you can set the Z1 behavior when sitting in a dock, wihin SmartConnect : http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/software/smart-connect/
BTW: Thanks for the tip of the Ultra Pod! Might be worthwhile looking into in combination with the SmartWatch 2 also. If you can provide the links, it is well appreciated!
