To clarify once again, Z3 will use 801 and 1080P screen.
What's the point in releasing a phone with similar spec as its predecessor?
Bigger battery, better camera and slightly different in look, just wont cut it.
I no longer consider Sony when looking for a new phone.

So, will the new design language of the Z3 be applied to the rest of the range for 2015?
I like the Omnibalance design and it's responsible for giving the Xperia range a real premium look and feel. I'm intrigued to see what they are going to replace it with.

I think someone or maybe sony has mentioned, there will be a new design language omni balance design will also be carry over. Omnibalance just means that every dimension is proportional, thats why we got big bezel on top and bottom of all the z lol, if the top is big the bottom also has to be the same size. Sony must have something else to really think that they can go up against the competitors with old hardware, even though real life performance is probably marginally different. I don't think design is enough to win over anyone. Screen? PRICE? |

Will Z3 likely ship with Android 5.0 or are we looking at 'update soon after release' scenario?
History tells me the latter is more likely.
I guess I'll be upgrading in 2Q15 when Z4 arrives. Always wanted a Z4, BMW though.

History also tells me Sony is less likely to get 4.4.4 out before anyone else, but I was proven wrong and quite surprised. They hired someone from the dev scene recently, maybe that will speed things up. |

when all there phones use the same SoC, they can share drivers right. And I thought most dev are just 1 or 2 guys. |

They hired Jerpelea from xda who runs the Free Xperia Project.
His role is, as JOH was alluding to, more to do with helping Sony cooperate better with the enthusiast developer scene than help bring new OS versions to brand new devices faster.
You're right that 4.4.4 is a nice surprise, but it doesn't really answer my question.
EDIT: As if on cue, Jerpelea posted on xda the Sony kernel sources github link. This is the sort of work he is doing for Sony.

Off-topic, but it looks like Jerpelea has renamed from FXP back to Jerpelea and has removed all his signature links to FXP. Perhaps Sony's move to hire him is one more political and they have actually intended and succeeded in stopping the leader of the biggest community dev group.

A small OT,
Sony officially splits its TV business to another company, Sony Visual Products, which will soon start its corporate operations at the beginning of July.
