Well the score is justified if the only way you can get these amazing shots if by fiddling the manual controls. If there's a spur of the moment shot and I can't do it with the auto mode then yes, it's an average camera. I don't have the time or knowledge to use the manual mode. |

So the only way to get HDR is to set to manual first then activate Turn HDR on. Subsequently next time you turn camera there will be a secondary mode button below the on screen shutter button to let you choose the function based on your last selected mode. Example you on your camera and choose panorama mode. Next time you on your camera the main will always be auto mode, the secondary mode will be panorama. |

Nobody wants to bother even that much... All other companies have such good auto mode that you just point and shoot...
And even after switching to HDR on Xperia, it's not on par with the competition.
I was expecting a score closer to 100 but this is how it is... The camera hardware is average at best and kind of outdated or not the latest. Most sensors beeing Samsung's and the main camera being on the level of galaxy S8 at max... On top of all this the software performs almost the same as in last 4-5 yrs... That is poor... Not good enough HDR or Bokeh performance, no night mode and the whole camera UI is so clunky and poorly organised, simply outaded and non user friendly. Only the post processing improved with better noise reduction which was earlier poor and not even exceptable two years back...
Sony should have used atleast IMX 586 with OIS as in one plus 7 pro and made the whole camera software from scratch by a new and expert team so that previous flaws didn't exist and the whole user experience atleast be on par with competition.

New comparisons between xperia 1 and galaxy note 10 plus. Seriously the mirror image of galaxy selfie camera... And the artificial green color of the grass....

After owning 10 straight Sony/Sony Ericsson phones, I deserted and bought a Oneplus 7 Pro 5G in July. I was lucky enough to be able to try both before buying and the Oneplus blew me away. The selling points of the X1 are the 4k HDR screen and the Alpha link up, but I still prefered the Oneplus screen and camera, and living in a 5G area - it was a no brainer. |

Art of Photography reviewed Xperia 1 and gave a lot of praise. https://youtu.be/TrZAb4dUfHQ
Pixel Peepers is back with a low light camera show down, claiming dxo rating is BS. https://youtu.be/9ZJYbhriaCc
And the short film shot on Xperia, Taste is out https://youtu.be/2CLqN1vyOrY
I know they probably used a hundred accessories and post produced it into oblivion but damn, it looks fantastic. There's also a blue phone towards the end I couldn't identify. ( guess it is the purple X1)

You're welcome xpr. I thought we should support these. And I think it's important that photography channels are reviewing the phone. There is at least 2 people who said they got to know about X1 from art of photography's video.
It's good to see sony finally taking marketing seriously. |

Someone please ask XB to publish these video.
There are two annoying people there that never seen anything good.
According to them 100% is wrong about the phone. |

Is there anyone else but me who has issues with the auto/manual focusing on their Xperia 1?
I can hold my hand infront of the camera and about 95% of the time the camera doesn´t adjust focus to it. It also has focus hunting issues in macro photography and landscapes are out of the question. When trying to shoot landscapes i get out of focus images about 98% of the time and adjusting the focus manually doesn´t help either because sliding the slider up to infinity in manual focus mode gives me out of focus images if like the camera looses focus adjustment to that distance.
The auto focus is a frustating issue for me and has been since the phone was brand new, i even exchanged it for another one the day after because of the issues and that one has the same problems! For a premium phone the camera is a low blow given it´s hardware!

@Tjobbs - sounds like either you have a defective camera or your expectations for performance are beyond what is reality. not sure what your photography background and experience is, but no camera is going to focus on your hand if its too close to the camera lens, unless that lens is a macro lens. regarding landscapes, you aren't going to get perfect detail on somethign that is too far away to get an accurate focus on.. hence the infinity. which basically means the focus is set to the maximum possible and you just have to use it to its potential.
sounds like you are having issues with macro shots and landscape shots. you have not mentioned issues with things within near distances, for example, a portrait shot of someone or some thing. if you're unable to get a clear focus in normal ranges then it sounds like you have a defective camera. if you can, then maybe you just need to alter your expectations or educate yourself on the limitations of the X1's camera.
note - i am not trying to make assumptions or insult you. just trying to help.

there is a minumum distance the cam requires to focus.
For the main camera, it maybe something like 4 or 5 cm at least. |
