No type C on the S7 because Samsung wants it to be compatible with the Gear VR, which if one will pre-order will receive a gear VR for free.

Doubt Sony will bring anything great to the Z6 as well, a brighter lens would be nice but without OIS, I might as well start saving up for a Alpha 6300.

Z6 will most like use the upgraded sensor with OIS posted on xperiablog last week. Watching the head to head of G5 vs S7. What does the camera module add to g5 beside battery pack and camera shutter abd zoom control? z5p still looks like a better all around features of both of them.

The Module is definitely something I can do without. It only adds ugliness and physical keys for things you can do with the touch screen. I do want a physical shutter key though.

As for the Xperia Z6. I only care for improved UI, design and camera capability with full manual settings that everyone praises
USB Type-C doesn't feel like a necessity right now.

Personally I hope not, I'd rather sony use the larger 1/2.3 Z5 sensor rather than the smaller 1/2.6 imx318. Area size of the 1/2.3 sensor is around 24% larger, so more area to capture light, assuming Sony uses the same aperture for both. Pixel size is more or less identical, 1 vs 1.1um, so the difference should not be noticeable but I feel even with the small photo sony posted on their site, the is a minor difference.

http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/201602/16-013E/

Sony would have been better off developing a 1/2.3 sensor with 16MP, rather than cramming >20MP onto small sensors.

Well the stabilization seems to be more geared towards videos and not images so doubt it will

and built-in 3-axis electronic image stabilization technology for video

So not sure how well it will work for photos, this is why I would still want OIS.

@McKinley
Improved camera algorithm would be nice, along with manual settings but it seems sony feels this not necessary. Funny considering they produce some great professional cameras and definitely have the knowledge and know how.

Sure both the S7 and G5 bring great things to the table but I don't foresee myself replacing my Z3 for now.

It probably wont use that sensor, likely to be saved for their upper mid range line and for others to use.
They usually keep their flagship stuff exclusive for a while.

And that sensor shown last week does not have OIS, it was digital stabilisation.

Either way I dont think Sony will offer anything oustanding this year.

What did they do when they released the Z5 to the USA? Just exactly that...

Well, if that is in fact the Z6, the fingerprint sensor must be somewhere, perhaps in that huge bezel in the down part...

if that is Z6 and has not the fingerprint sensor, then sony is steping back comparing other brands, all major brands flagship have fingerprint sensor...

I used to think that Sony strived to move forward. With that design and possible lack of fingerprint scanner; Sony are more striving to take as many steps backward as possible. I don't believe the phone in the picture is their flagship.

After a long time, I would say I am impressed with Samsung's flagship.

I think Sony should just focus on where they are strong and stop trying hard if they can't.
If they can't compete on the flagship segment, focus on the compact

I think the Samsung s7 has the same sensor as the M5. As a tech enthusiast, I commend Samsung for the technological improvement they are giving to us consumers. This is the first time I felt this since 2009 SE days. I just feel Sony isn't innovating that much especially the Z5 from the z series. The sd810 were not developed by them and their sensor was from a different division. I don't even like the design of the new z5. It is too bulky for today's new standard. It feels bulky against competitors. Honestly, the z3+ design is better.

1. Sony will not use that sensor ( xperiablog posted a week or so ago ) in their flagship.. it's not a flagship sensor.

2. The last white phone leak is definitely not Z6.. the design is closer to Z5 than to the previous leak, not to mention lack of fingerprint & stereo speaker..

The black leaked phone with stainless steel back is more likely the Z6 than this white one. At least black one has the fingerprint sensor and stereo speakers.
