Main reason for a digital compass is to know how the map you are looking at is oriented when using GPS. It's not fun coming up from the subway trying to figure out which direction is which. For the moment I have to walk a bit 30-40 meters before my phone knows directions |

Sony Ericsson to open up Timescape and Mediascape UX apps
SDKs for both apps to be release during 2010
No sooner has Sony Ericsson released the attractive X10 Xperia mobile phone then it announces that the two star apps featured on the UX operating system, Timescape and Mediascape, will be opened up to developers. Software development Kits (SDK) are to be released for both apps during the new year.
The company also admitted to the Electric Pig website that it intends to port the UX OS to other devices over its Symbian and Android portfolio - including the new Kurara?
"We are keen to open up the APIs for these applications, and we welcome a dialog with developers to get ideas and feedback, with a view to launching a Sony Ericsson SDK in early 2010," said the company.
Timescape, a management program, "manages all your communications with one person in one place. Browse through your conversations...to check out your Facebook, Twitter, photos, emails and texts all in one go." whilst Mediascape allows you to, "...get all the music, photos and videos you want from your favourite friends and artists. It accesses content from everywhere - your phone, YouTube, PlayNow - and presents everything for you."

HD video recording is rather unlikely don't you think?

If it had HD video recording they would have written HD on every part of the phone and would have mentioned this every time they mention the phone |

Mizzle says it has HD recording. But then he is not around now. |

I will 100% satisfied with a FWVGA 480×854 video recording @ 30FPS, but with a 16m display and stereo speakers. |

Remember guys... the phone is still proto and we have yet to see the other features of the phone. We've only been shown timescape, media scape, and two native android apps (maps and browser).
It doesn't seem like there is a consistent set of specs for X10 across the board as there seems to be conflicting information all over the place.
I hope it can record HD. It certainly has the power to do so.

still 3-4 months til release... i anticipate (and hope for) drastic improvements in everything that everyone has been disappointed about....
Looking forward to additional information, video tutorials/walkthroughs, etc!
EDIT: I just went to the X10's website... being in the US, it automatically redirected me to X10a. WHAT'S GOIN ON!?!? I thought it was gonna be a world release!! I don't want to have to WAIT for an american version

Aside from orienting maps, it's also increasingly used for augmented reality apps, which seem to be the next big thing. These typically combine the camera, GPS and compass to show you a live image of wherever you are, augmented with useful information on whatever (or whoever) you're looking at. Google "layar" for one example, it's already big on the original G1 Android phone, Magic, Hero, and iPhone 3GS, all of which have a compass.

wow. lots of trolling here lately. maybe you guys should open a negative thread so people here can really discuss about the phone. and btw, 65k is the limit for Donut just like winmo 6.1 on x1. I bet the screen can actually support 16M. In real life though, it really wouldn't matter.
You may actually have a very good point here, that would explain why there is such a confusion form se:s side. |

That's another SE problem. They should stop the whole "a" version nonsense and start producing quad-band phones and NAM 3G support seriously to satisfy North Americans.
I can feel your pain moogoo. Your disappointment is doubled now.
