Hi Gucci,
How about the speed of the interface? On Perterkay's videos it looks pretty quick and smooth, but GSM Arena seems to disagree.
How quick is it, say compared to a M600, or any other smartphone you tested before?
Thanks! |

@ benitorios
I havent used a M600 but i have used a P1 and own a Nokia N80, compared to those two the W960 is realy quick, the UI is great, just like what PeterKay said, and that touchscreen seems realy strong,i didnt need a stylus, just used my finger.
@ zyexx
thats very true.

In the images of gsmarena seems that the screen of w960i is awfull...
you can't see if you are under light...Especially compared with the two other mobiles(k850 & t650 i think).Why...is it true? or they have taken bad photos?I ask those who have tested w960i...
Thanks... |

Oeph... took me hours to read the hole topic. Peter, I really appreciate your review and answering so many questions!
I still have some questions, so maybe the other owners could help me...
1) How about the battery life? How much can you use the phone when using the regular functions normally, but with 2 hours music listening a day?
2) I understand it doens't have an accelerometer (strange that the "cheapier" models have it), but is it possible to set the phone to horizontal mode manually? Seems a rather logical function since the other phones can do that, and they are not even touch sensitive
3) I see it doesn't have any protection of the camera-lens?
4) I don't see any photos taken with the W960i on PeterKay's site. Can anybody upload some? Or does anybody know whether there are some photos on the web already?
5) Peter says the display is very nice. But compared to the K850i on GSMarena it doesn't look good at all:
6) Less important: A comparison photo of the W960i and K750i would be great!
Thank you very much in advance! |

5) I think that picture is in quite heavy sunlight, and the two phones use different display technics. Normal touchscreens i.e P990i is almost totally worthless under direct sunlight. therefore I would assume it's one of the few problems on W960i. (Plus, the k850 has a great display )

@stormbringer, a few answers:
Firstly battery life, don't know about 2 hours music but watching videos for 1.5 hrs battery life drained around 20%, i only charged the phone every 3 days, mostly i used it for wifi purposes and videos also the odd mp3.
Secondly, that picture above shows one phone with the protector still on maybe thats why its showing bad colours!! i compared mine toi the P1i and W950i, W960i looked much brighter.
Pictures taken with the W960i are in the Esato camera phone section or look at the fron page of this review for the links.
Correct, no camera lens protector on the proto.

Thanks a lot!
I finally got the photos taken by the W960i. I just had to find the filter function... But they are not so bad, I guess they will be a bit better in the final version.
The battery life sounds very good indeed! But one question remains:
Is it possible to use the W960i horizontally?
I guess not, because I've never seen it or heard about it. But it's odd, because the K850i and W910i have it (at least in the Media Player), and it's automatically by accelerometer too! And this W960i, being the top of the line smartphone, touch-sensitive control, doesn't have it?! Doesn't make sense to me...
But I hope I'm wrong, and it is really possible to use it horizontally. Or maybe the final version will have that option...

Hi Peter,
One question came to my mind when reading Eldar's review of the W960 and its bad ergonomics.
When in Walkman mode, is it possible to activate the keypad lock so that even the 3 Walkman keys stop responding? I actually carry my phone in my pocket most of the time and it makes sense to turn off all buttons otherwise it will play/pause/skip randomly when in the pocket.
If so, does the Walkman key remain active to perform the play/pause action?
To me, one of the big drawbacks of the W960 hardware is the lack of a side play/pause button like on so many SE phones before it, like the W800, W880, etc. When you carry the phone in a pouch, how on earth do you pause your music???
Thanks for your answer, hopefully you had a chance to test this when you still had the phone to play with.
Cheers!! |

It says:
"Software-wise, this version of the Walkman player is one of the best we’ve seen, but at the same time, it delivers no breakthrough in terms of sonic experience. In fact, with no dedicated audio chips on offer, Sony Ericsson risks ending up on the skirts of the market."
I've read elsewhere that the sound quality is very good. I wonder what I should believe in. If the sound is not good, I will not buy it.
I'm used to the iRiver sonic quality.
