Hi Everyone.
Just thaught I'd drop a line to tell you I got my carphone warehouse supposedly "unbranded" firmware updated to the latest firmware today by the seunlock-uk guys..
I can heavily recommend these people - I met their technical manager in person in Edinburgh today and they updated my phone whilst I waited in around half an hour.
The phone was returned to my updated and tested with detailed instructions on putting back texting/internet setttings etc.
In short : VERY trustworthy people with GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE and SUPPORT! I heavily recommend their services.. and will be to my friends/colleagues etc..
This new firmware is much better - it doesn't reboot when I look at video properties...
I can now enable the speakerphone BEFORE a call is made!!!
I can now fast forward/jump into the middle or any part of a music video - and it now works instead of locking up..
etc. etc.
So I heavily recommend everyone updates their firmware if their current version is causing them problems..
The good thing about using their service is that my CDA code has now changed to a much more common one that might get more updates from SEUS!
Regards
Steven McDonald.

Normal flash cards such as the Memory Stick, SD, CF, etc all have a limited number of read/write cycles. While the number is pretty high, I've had one Memory Stick and one SD card fail over the past three years. As the owner of a new W950i with built-in, non replaceable flash RAM, should I worry that if the RAM fails - I'm left with a useless phone that cannot take external memory cards ? After all, the phone is a music player and I tend to update the songs a lot |

OK, here is my rant!
I have gone from the K800 to the W950 and have had SE's for over 15 years now.... now I can see just how good the Sony Ericsson OS really is, very tight and works flawlessly, I have to say their implementation of UIQ is good, but you notice things they miss out by not having their own OS.
Here is what is bothering me!
- Web Browser doesn’t sabe settings, i.e. if you select it to fit to page and full page, when you close and re-open it defaults back, very annoying.
- I have set the phone lock with passcode so I have to type in a pin before the phone can be used, however when an alarm goes off in the morning I have to type in the pin before I can turn off or snooze the alarm! (plus the snooze is now 5 mins and not 9 as others )
- Also with the phone pin on I can’t use the play/pause button on the side of the phone without unlocking the phone first!
- When the phone is on silent there is no alarm sound (from reading this sees to happen to all UIQ phones p9xx etc)
- It really is a 2 handed phone, for instance when you go into text messages, to move to say sent items you need to tap the screen, there is no keyboard option, it would be nice for say the 1 and 3 keys to work as sideways arrows…. I miss my joystick!
- And finally there is no standby screen with clock and missed calls/texts indicator etc, something I really miss that was on the last 3 or 4 phones.

MrPlant: you mean that even the SIM free version of the W950i from carphone warehouse is branded ??? that sucks. What was the branding like ? Was it like certain apps and shortcuts were removed ? Was any functionality missing ? |

Opera is installed, it is the default web browser you use |

This must be a branding issue as my unbranded W950 has a standby screen with a clock and it shows missed calls, calendar events, and new messages (including texts and e-mails)??? |

Does anyone know if you can change the default browser that starts up when you click on the 'web' icon?
I prefer Opera Mini to the version installed on my W950i and would like to change it (rather than have an extra icon in my list of applications).
PS - Just got my debranded phone back from Coxy and can add to the ever growing list of satified customers! |

Hello guys,
I am sending my W950i to SEunlock this week. My major concern is music on this phone and I've noticed the mega bass in W800i/w850i which is very much attractive and detailed but in W950i, i am not that much satisfied with the bass level, rest of the phone is awesom. Is it due to the CDA (EU-CDA)? Any one who has done debranding/unlocking/CDA through SEunlcok.co.uk, is it realy affect the volume of the handset? What about the bass(mega bass), is this going to affect the bass as well? and does any one know that how to record a call on W950i? i've tried but i couldn't |

wow! that's pretty amazing considering Sony and Ericsson merged only 5 years ago...hell, the first Motorola Startac didn't even come out until 1996...you must have a Delorean with a flux capicitor installed |

it supports mp4, 3gp, and i'm not sure but i think it also supports wmv. in any case, it sounds like you have to convert your videos first to play them in your phone.
the best audio/video converter i've used for SE phones so far is M3. it's free and you can read about it at the following link:

you must have MS .net V2 or higher installed first tho. |
