Mabye a stupid question, but where do you charge the phone from? Cant see any outlets except where the USB-cable is going in.

This is the first sensible thing have done in ages the X1 uses Mini USB for charging and Sync! It's almost standardisation
I have owned the ... T68i T610, P800, P900, P910, P990, W950, P1, W960 But SE have now totally lost the plot.

most, if not all, WM devices uses mini (or micro) USB for sync and charge

its my preference as well as I have so many other gadgets that can be charged or do data transfer via the same USB to mini USB cable

Hi all,

I agree with Masseur that the Mini or Micro USB is indeed a great solution for both charger and or sync and charging although in my case not with a WM device but with a Bold.

Finally i have found a use for an old Motorola V3 usb in car charger that i am now using with my Bold, thankfully i discovered this just prior to buying one for the Bold that it turns out i didn't need.

This is one standardisation that i think really should be in all Mobile devices as it really does simplify things for all of us. One in car charger can last many devices same goes for desktop chargers and syncing cables to. It may not be as profitable for the company whose products we purchase and use but it is better for us and dare i say it the environment to.

Marc

They don’t like the Camera

Fair enough, but from what I've seen of it (playing in the shop, and reading reviews etc) it seems pretty good for what it is - a simple 2mp snapper. Most say it compares favourably with many of the "better specified" cameras on other smartphones - certainly it would struggle to be worse than the supposedly 3mp, autofocus cam on my current HTC phone.

They don’t like no MMS

As with most of the Iphone's missing features, I wouldn't exactly be upset if they added it, but the more I think about this, the less it bothers me. You can still receive MMS (via a message with a link that opens in Safari) and sending pictures by email is a snap. Sending MMS on my Windows Mobile-powered Tytn II is quite a torturous process, and I probably won't miss that.

They don’t like no A2DP Bluetooth and lack of compatibility with other devices

I've never used A2DP. I guess it's one of those features you either live by, or couldn't care less about. If I can use a bluetooth headset for calls (I don't own one, but can see the point) then I'm happy. With a standard headphone jack, I've no problem using wires for sound.

They hate the browser and its lack of flash so now they cant get certain sites

I don't think there are too many users out there who "hate" Safari... Flash is a rarity on any mobile device, it's just now coming to Opera on certain platforms I guess, but it's far from a widespread feature. Has it ever been available in UIQ3's browser?

They are not that keen on the lack of feedback through the screen!

That's a bit of a bizarre one - I mean, none of the touchscreens I've used (and I'm used to both generations of UIQ and Windows Mobile) have ever had significant "feedback", only that very slight squishiness inherent in the use of two layers of plastic over the screen. By losing that, you get a much brighter, clearer screen that's easier to read in many more lighting conditions - I'll take that over the barely noticeable "feedback" any day.

They don’t like the poor battery life and they can’t now just slot a new one as they did before!

It's a HSDPA smartphone, battery life is always poor (my Tytn II lasts a day's full use at best). It's reportedly been improved with 2.1 firmware, and can be improved still further by switching off the 3G when you're not using it, which is quite easy to do in the Iphone's UI.

As for replacement batteries, well, I don't think I've ever once bought a spare battery for any of my phones. My Tytn II could probably have used one once or twice, but the idea of carrying around a fully charged spare on the offchance is still pretty alien to me.

They don’t like no cut and paste

No, me either.

They hate the cost of running the damn thing

For me, it'll be almost the exact same price as my Tytn II. The Vodafone contract I'm on now, including unlimited internet (which I use) is almost identical in price and minutes etc to the contract O2 are offering the Iphone on.

@Boinng

Well you asked for the points people don't like and that is what you got
I am not sure your comments will change much, none of the guys I know that have them in Sweden like them, as for me I tried it and found it didn't DO anything more than my existing P1 W960 combo does, just less what more can I say.

Who said anything about changing anything? I was just interested to see the arguments, since I came around to the Iphone idea a little while ago (waiting till October to get it).

Obviously Sweden still has some staunch support for the UIQ way of doing things, but for me it's history now. I'd take WM over UIQ for all its faults, but in October I'll be taking OSX over both of them.

I'm still trying to fathom there being 340MB of RAM on this device. I mean the numbers don;t add up as even if they included the 32MB on-CPU RAM to be part of it then that means they stuck an extra 52MB on original RAM or are making 308MB chips which wouldn't make much sense.

384MB RAM on the other hand would make sense but I'm reading reports Magnus confirmed it at 340MB. OK, so he might have confused free ROM for total RAM which would make sense but then probably not since ROM doesn't result in slow downs. I'm confused!!

So when the X1 launches on 30th september, how soon will it reach Sweden and the shops there then? You would assume the same day or the day after, but how can ut be that they doesnt have it before 10th october? I dont understand the prosess. Anyone who work with mobile phones in sweden who know when they will have it? I need it before 12.october when I'm going on a holiday hehe

Wow !!!

I didn't realize there are so many limitations in Iphone. As for me, no keyboard let me down but now after reading the list....hmm there more than that.

Yes, I'm with you. It doesn't add up. Like I've said before, I'm of the belief that he's actually talking about remaing Flash ROM, not SDRAM. WM apps aren't that RAM hungry are they?

Well we can deduce he is not talking about total ROM as that has been established at 512MB! If he's talking about free ROM then I'm suprised slow downs come up in the same sentence that is why it would be believable that he actually knows he is talking about RAM. Although, upping the RAM so late in the day contradicting white paper specs doesn;t make much sense either.

To be honest 256MB RAM for WM 6.1 is enough but 340/384MB would really help open it up to the possibility of a WM7 upgrade next year provided there were no requirements for gfx standards such as OpenGL etc. as in true WM fashion I think the next iteration will most likely be more memory hungry!

Well, I'm not going to be against 384MB of RAM
It would be nice to know exactly what prompted the additional increase though.

Yes most definitely! I ordered a Touch Pro from Vodafone a few days ago deliberating which between the two I should go for quite intensively. However, I figured a flush screen and quick one handed use through TF3D would be more important to me than WVGA and 3.5mm. Though, if it is actually true the X1 has more RAM and/or better gfx drivers then I will promptly send the Touch Pro back!!
