I wonder with all the various tablets Sony are going to release if they will have a followup to the Tablet P that fixes the flaws of the original. It would have to involve a flexible OLED display, but Sony have been working on those for many years and even announced one not too long ago, although it wasn't of the highest resolution.

If I did have to make a wish on a Sony product I think could take the mobile market by storm, it'd be a phone/tablet all in one. Basically picture 2 Galaxy notes slapped together with a single display on one side for phone use, but when you want to have a larger screen for tablet use you just fold it open like the Tablet P and presto! Single large screen tablet inside! Yeah, yeah, I know we're still a fair bit off from such a device, but of all the companies out there, I think only Sony and Samsung are likely to be the first to put one on the market. I'm just hoping it'll be Sony.

This one from the below link sounds exactly like the phablet you have wished!! But this is still very far away from making it to the market.

I think the image resolution would be up to 16/17 megapixels and the lenses would be composed of more lenses like iSight. Plus, video would be recorded in maximum 1080p at 120 fps. Consider this as a wild guess or a fragment of my imagination.

Lol, yeah I saw that. Problem is so long as such a device doesn't have a single continuous screen, I don't think it will be popular. A true phone and tablet all in one should be immensely popular I think. Anyways, that's just a dream for now.

So anything else to share randomuser, or have we reached out allotment of secrets for now?

No 1080p @ 120fps in the near future. But you're kinda right with the rest of your post.

It's fascinating how an ordinary member who reads Chinese forums can become an insider all of a sudden. How many so called insiders have we had the last couple of years? It seems our hunger for rumors create them.

Sorry randomuser but until I see something you say come true you are just another avmaxfan to me.

I never claimed I am an insider, Did I? Nor am I claiming my posts to be 100% true. And as for whether people should trust what I post or not, they are free to read this entire thread and cross check whether whatever info I posted turned out true or not. For eg. Xperia SL, Xperia SX and a whole lot more.

My guess is that Exmor R is the mobile version of the original Exmor, but infact Exmor R is the Sony brand name of their version of back-illuminated CMOS sensor, there's no relation to the original Exmor sensor Sony use on their other CE products...

Exmor RS is in my guess the Stacked version of Exmor R... so it's the mobile stacked Exmor...

but don't confuse, the Exmor R isn't just a mobile version of Exmor, it's just Sony brand name for back-illuminated CMOS sensor...

Regarding the Sony move toward Stacked sensor and hopes for higher quality...

While it's possible, as they can use the space saved from the circuit to increase the size of the original sensor.. but I think Sony will make the sensor bigger with higher resolution.. so it will have the exact same dpi but the Stacked nature will allow them to have more space for the sensor and produce the same sensor with smaller size = lower cost...

Sadly Sony doesn't look that much into lower dpi in sensors, even thought this can help increase the quality and lower noise, but in the same time it costs more ( lower dpi means larger sensor for the same MP count ), the only tech I know that really helped decrease the noise without increase the sensor size is the back-illumination tech. which is just moves the sensor circuit to the back of the photo-diode letting the later have more light that was blocked before by the circuit...

Sony Sensors are very good, they're used in best the best camera known smartphones like iPhone and GS3 ( both iPhone 4s and GS3 uses the same Sony sensor ), but what changes is the camera software which every company works hard to improve it... Sony learned well but they need more work to be the best...

Well clearly a lot of people do think you are one, and you seem to like it (avmaxfan did too lol). Don't give people false hopes is all I'm saying. You should write that it is rumors from china. In my experience very little from there is true. It's a good source for pictures though

Sony Announces PlayStation Mobile Plans for Vita, Certified Devices

Sony has finally announced its plans for PlayStation Mobile on Tuesday with a "full-scale launch" in nine countries this fall.

PlayStation Mobile will launch in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Australia with 30 new titles from a variety of categories, including Adventure, Action, Puzzle and Sports. Titles will be created both by third-party publishers as well as Sony's own SCE Worldwide Studios.

the company is planning "bite-sized games" which will play on PlayStation Certified devices, which include Android smartphones and tablets as well as the PlayStation Vita.

Titles will be purchased from the PlayStation Store, where they'll be tied to a user's PlayStation Network ID. According to Sony, that means that one PlayStation Mobile purchase can be played on any Certified device tied to that user ID.

In addition to the PlayStation Mobile news, Sony announced that ASUS and Wikipad have been added as new PlayStation Certified partners, so expect some new supported hardware from those companies in the near future.

Kazuo Hirai on Where He's Taking Sony

Where do you think personal technology will be in five years?
People are moving more and more to the mobile space, so the two keywords, and you’ll probably hear this from everybody: smartphones and tablets. Related to that is moving a lot of things to the cloud. That’s why, for example, we felt that it was very important that we acquire the 50 percent of our joint venture in Sony Ericsson and make the cell phone business or the smartphone business a 100 percent-owned subsidiary of Sony. We needed to make decisions a lot faster.

You’ve been emphatic in some of your public statements in saying Sony is going to be a company that makes things.
What I’ve stressed actually is a Japanese word called kando. Literally, it means to move people emotionally. That’s what we’re all about, moving people emotionally. Or, simply put, to put a big smile on our customers’ faces around the world. That connects everybody with Sony, whether you’re an engineer improving picture quality on an LCD television or you’re a video game producer. That’s why I’ve stressed the phrase “one Sony.” It doesn’t matter which part of Sony you’re from; it’s all about bringing that kando.

Does Sony have any potential blockbusters in the pipeline on the level of, say, the Walkman?
One of the challenges that I’ve given to the R&D folks and the product development guys is, let’s see if we can come out with products that fundamentally change consumer behavior. That’s what the Walkman did. That’s what the PlayStation did and many other Sony products, fundamentally changed the way consumers behave. One of the things that encouraged me personally was that as I became president on the first of April, the design center presented me with a huge thick booklet of about 200 product ideas. Some are really far out in left field; others are like, you know what, these we can do tomorrow. It just showed that the creativity within Sony is certainly still vibrant.

So many 2013/2014 rumours! I think after IFA we should move to the new 2013 forum . Anyways nice to see few rumours pop in every now and then..

@smclion102,
I have high hopes from kaz and the future sony. Hope they do deliver it! One of the biggest problem is they dont advertise properly about their features, but on the other hand, you have some manufacturers that will write off and advertise smallest things and sell way more!

I am not giving anybody false hopes. If I was a guy who only wanted to give false hopes I would have created a lot of noise about the supposed Xperia Z, C, E Y and other fairy tale devices. But I didn't and told nobody to believe those rumors as they were fake.

And for anyone who thinks I am giving false hopes to people here and posting baseless and crap rumors here, I insist you go through this entire thread right from Page 1 and verify whether the info I have been posting since the beginning of the year turned out true or not.

But yes you should wait till CES 2013 and decide whether I am posting useless info or credible info. And if someone thinks I am only posting fantasies with no connection to facts, they are free to criticize.

P.S. This post isn't meant to start an argument or fight. I was just making it clear that I am not giving people false hopes !. I would appreciate if we can move on with rumors and nobody quotes my post to argue further.
And although much of the info I shared here did turn out true, I cannot guarantee that every single info I post here should be believed to be the absolute truth as I am only posting rumors and not FACTS.

Sony trademarks ‘Exmor RS’ – new camera sensor on the way?

Sony Corporation recently trademarked “Exmor RS” at both the United States (USPTO) and European (OHIM) patent offices. Sony has used its current Exmor R camera sensor in a range of devices including cameras, camcorders and of course Xperia smartphones. It looks like this new version will also be applied across a variety of technology, judging by the Goods & Services description within the trademark.

We thought Sony may be branding their new stacked CMOS sensors as Exmor RS, but there hasn’t been any evidence of this thus far so this is likely to be an entirely new sensor. We look forward to see what improvements it brings over the current back-illuminated Exmor R that is superb for low-light imaging.
