Hey, the use of P-OLED over Glass-based OLED due to display panel thickness. Every mm are worth it for fitting more stuff
Traditional LCD: 2mm (u could crack open your Xperia and measure it)
Glass-based OLED: 1mm
P-OLED: less than 0.5mm

Sony actually seems to care about the quality of the displays they use, so I wouldn't think they'd move to P-OLED unless the panels in question met their specs. I don't think there's anything to worry about there. |

Mate RS using P-OLED and Mate 20 Pro using AMOLED. I would think Huawei not stupid to put "subpar" P-OLED into its flagship...
Also Nokia 8 Sirocco using P-OLED too...
Nowaday there are only few OLED mfg
-SDC
-LGD
-BOE
-Visionox
Which would Sony choose...
J-OLED not available until 2019....

Sharp has also finished Their pilotline production last month. Scheduled to start mass production this month.
LGD has a higher chance but who know. Sony and Sharp used to have great relationship.

Slow production rate, 22,000 monthly substrates and unknown quality. If LGD which having long experiences with OLED also get into troubles then I wouldnt trust Sharp.... |

22000 was last years yeild rate. And it's 22000 subtrates not panels so I think there is still a low chance of having them on an Xperia. Of course this is just pure speculation on my part.hopefully more competition will drive the prices lower. I'm perfectly fine with Sony's LCDs though.I don't want OLED just for the sake of being OLED.

Well I read that on January.I frequent OLED info.Still confirms that till June there is
a chance that they can provide Sony's September flagship with displays. Still as I said it's just my guess and LGD has a higher chance. BTW if I remember right AUO also has Amoled displays. Don't think they can go for 4K though. All the prototypes they show (2014 unwards) are FHD.I think they are focused on SmartWatch displays.
Off-topic: I really liked sharp before foxconn bought most of the shares and the company. Don't know why. Maybe cause they're a Japanese company and I'm a sony fan.
