Ok, so it's upgrade time again. I'm currently on o2 online offpeak 500 [500 sms, 500 offpeak o2, 50 offpeak xnet, 500 wap(never seem to manage to use these), and 0.5 mb browse] at £20 pm.
Last upgrade I was going to cancel because was going travelling for 6 months but the guy said I could just drop down to low tariff (£6 pm) for 12 months and he'd put £75 credit on account. I agreed that I would do this so I could then upgrade when I got back, little did I realise this was my upgrade cash option, otherwise I'd have asked for the full £100. So when I got back I bought a K800i out of contract from o2 as that was what I really wanted.
I have been with o2 for 5/6 years so am hoping to get a better deal. Aiming for;
400sms,
100 peak xnet mins,
200-300 offpeak xnet (maybe 250 same network with 50 xnet),
3mb data,
N73 (Would prefer a SE but don't need the walkman series)
I would rather keep on a 12 month contract and be paying £20-30pm with free phone.
I've read some of the offers people have recieved and am impressed. I know all about phoning up to get the right person at o2 and speak to retentions as they offer better deal and asking for PAC code etc, but really need to know if people think it is likely that o2 will be able to offer this.
I have seen good offers from other networks that would meet my needs but are 18month contracts and I don't wanted a branded phone so an upgrade would suit me perfectly.
Is this contract likely and does anyone know any other deals that I could quote as being offered?
Direct Texter 1400 sends reasonable and includes sms and voice requirements and £5 data pm but not too sure how long the half price line rental will last with the N73, just states extension possible. Again this is a 18 month contract!

i tried to cancel my contract in the hope of o2 offering me a good deal to stay. been with them for over a year.
currently finishing up my £35 a month contract but also have a £25 a month sim free contract too.
retentions guy adrian was as useful as a condom with a hole.
first he tried to talk me into another £35 a month (600 mins + 1000 txt) and throw in a W810 (whoop de do).
i told him i didnt need that many minutes and i could get 300mins and 300text for £10 a month with virgin.
he said best he could do is £25 a month (200 mins + 500 txt) with a W810.
told him that wasnt good enough and asked for my pac code. he gave it and then i asked for the pac code for my sim only contract. he sounded suprised that i had a 2nd contract and said he was unable to give me the pac code because the system had gone down and he would call me back later.
he never did.
so looks like im moving to virgin.

yeah, considering they're supposed to want to keep customers I haven't experienced much of this in practice.
I know orange are offering a free broadband deal (unfortunately not available in my area) so I may throw that at them and see how they react.
Does anyone have any tips that may be worth trying get a better deal out of o2? |

it annoys me when i hear from moneysavingexpert that people are getting these kind of deals...
500 xnet mins
500 txts
Free voicemail
Sony Ericsson K800i
Free Ipod shuffle
12 month contract
O2 long weekends 12 months
........£15 per month!
Did I just get a tight ass retentions person or is just me? |

Can you tell me if this is good? I can cancel tomorrow if it isn't:
600 X-Net Anytime minutes
1000 Texts
2000 Texts on Long Weekends
75MB Data per month
Free Blackberry Pearl
£50 per month flat
I don't know if I can maybe beat that elsewhere? |

My previous contract was:
50 x-net minutes
200 texts
75p a month
Now that the 12 months for this have just expired I called up to "leave"....
From the 27th of this month I shall now have:
3,000 x-net minutes
3,000 texts
All for only..... £35 a month...
Though that was pretty decent.

My primary contract at the moment is on t-mobile where I have 3,000 minutes (off peak) to any network. I use about 2,000 a month, as these minutes are going to be on-peak as well I'm assuming I'll use the majority...
Don't really need the texts, but picture messages simply take off 4 regular text messages so that's handy. Also i've been offered it, i'm not going to turn it down and request a lesser amount.
Oh btw it is one of the new "simplicity" deals as seen on the website. However on the o2 website the £35 deal gives 1,200 x-net minutes & 1,000 texts. If you're an existing customer, for the next 7 days you can get 3,000 of each like me.
Just tell them you're leaving and they'll tell you about the deal
The best bit is your not entering into a lengthy contract, just 30 days... which renews itself. You can cancel at any time you like just pay off that months bill.
Perfect until the iPhones out!

@bumfilter
If you are getting a BB and intend using Data that 75mb per month Data is worthless as as soon as you use it up any extra Data will bankrupt you personally i think that deal sucks for £50pm. Go to look at the Flext £35pm deal and add the Web N Walk £7.50 1GB per month. Which is cheaper and i believe offers about the same amount of texts and minutes but you are free to use more or less of each allowance as suits you best. Sorry but 02 Data makes using their service a no no as heavy Data usage will bump your bill big time IMHO.

My contract is up in November and i'm not sure what to do really. I'm wanting to get a blackberry until the iPhone is released and just wondered if you can get an unlimited data bolt on from o2 for pay and go. I just never use the minutes or txts up so don't see the point in paying £35 a month for it. And the data for contract is an extra £10 per month.

My contract finishes on the 23rd of this month
Unfortunately, I obviously can't get the iPhone and so I may get an N95
Does anybody think this deal is possible (or something similar)
Free Nokia N95
200 Minutes
150 Texts
5/10 MB
Around £20-25 line rental (12 months)
Also, can I please have some top tips
It seems as though the best thing to do is get through to retentions...right?
Please reply - Thanks a lot in advance
