The image pmugghc was referring to below... Go easy on the bezels comments peeps!
Looks to be a midrange offering.
Moving forward, IMHO the Sony Android UI needs a full refresh.

Is that 2.5d glass on the front? And is that a metal back?

If mid range, perhaps this is the F51xx model. |

If this is how the new design starts then It's good enough for me...
It's a mid ranger in a high chance... so any flagship with such design will be IMO better looking, not to say this is bad design.. it's good but not for a high-end flagship from Sony...
Arc, S designs are very nice indeed, but I'm thinking about the new trend in design, plus the needs of todays smartphones with as clean front as possible ( less buttons )
Other manufacturers are forced to return to front buttons ( HTC ) so they can have better placement for fingerprint scanner, and some decided to never get rid of it in the first place duo to that being a signature design for them ( Samsung ), and some moved to the back of the phone ( LG )...
Sony chose to integrate the Finger scanner in the side power button which is genuine.. some new makers borrowed this also from Sony... but some says it caused some issues compared to a bare front button.. so I guess alot of manufacturers are waiting for production ready behind-screen fingerprint scanner which was demonstrated by Qualcomm few months ago
Any way, I think it's a very conservative design change... maybe Sony decided to go this route or they kept the larger changes for the flagship and made this as a test for the new changes

there is a post @xperiablog
" 5" HD.
- SoC MT6735.
- Ram and storage are more than E4 (I can't talk about this at the moment).
- Camera front and back like M4 Aqua.
- Design similar to E4.
- Have 4G LTE, dual sim."
looks like a entry level model if the post is true(it's supposed to be e6)...

Unrelated to sony but LG's press conference starts in 30 minutes at 14:00 CET, will be interesting to see what LG brings to the stage. Samsung's press conference is later today at 19:00 I believe.

Makes sense, it would be too early to have a new C model, whereas the C is much older.
Still no UAprof for the F51xx?
edit, if anyone is interested in watching samsung's press release, here is the link

I have to say that I'm impressed with the new S7 Edge, It has almost everything I want for a flagship this year
Too bad it still uses MicroUSB instead of Type C..... and no Force Touch.
But overall, its a solid and tempting offering. I might need to wait for the Z6 to make my decision though

Sony, pleasee shock and awe us with the Xperia Z6.
I have a bad feeling it's not going to happen this half of 2016 year though.

Well they rectified what was missing on the previous devices, microSD, battery size and added IP68. Oddly enough Samsung decided to use a 4:3 sensor now and not a 16:9.
No type C on the S7 because Samsung wants it to be compatible with the Gear VR, which if one will pre-order will receive a gear VR for free.
Doubt Sony will bring anything great to the Z6 as well, a brighter lens would be nice but without OIS, I might as well start saving up for a Alpha 6300. |

^ their new IMX318 sensor has 3-axis digital stabilization, i don't think they need to add extra OIS into the Z6.
What I want from them might be a new design with focus on detail. Maybe adding 2.5D Glass and reducing the bezel. The new S7 Edge has an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 81.72%, the Z6 need to get this.
What I really don't like about the Z5 is the sharp feeling between the glass panel and the metal frame, using 2.5D glass might solve this issue (3D glass like Samsung might not be possible for Sony atm)
I hope they use the new Display from JDI which has wet finger tracking. The new Zs should use USB type C, this is what i feel disappointed about the S7s

Z6 will most like use the upgraded sensor with OIS posted on xperiablog last week. Watching the head to head of G5 vs S7. What does the camera module add to g5 beside battery pack and camera shutter abd zoom control? z5p still looks like a better all around features of both of them. |
