ah, thanks for the link, boba. by advanced standby you mean longer standby time, yeah? got a bit confused there, was thinking that's some sort of application for the battery ;-p. nice reading, though. i'm a proper fan of the e-series now, best thing that ever came out of nokia.
some questions, after i read the brochure. what is this 'nokia office tools' thing? i've never noticed any on my set? and i always thought my e65 had egsm (EDGE), i remeber seeing some brochures that states it does, and there are some settings on my phone for it?? never been able to find any settings for my service provider though, it needs some kind of number to dial-up or something.
http://asia.nokia.com/A4346195#1
it says on the nokia site it does, for both APAC and europe. has anyone ever used EDGE on their e65's?

I've used edge on my e65 when roaming on orange uk. You get an E under the signal reception indicator. |

ah??!! then here lies the confusion? i remember reading somewhere that egsm = EDGE, so therefore i assume that the e65 has EDGE. however, i've never noticed that nokia ever promoting e65 as an EDGE capable phone.
moreover, i've researched again and it says that egsm is 'extended gsm', which isn't what EDGE is? there's even a thread here that says egsm isn't EDGE?
i've also seen some settings for my phone for EDGE, so what makes? can anyone clarify this egsm and EDGE thing for once? |

EDGE = Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution, and is also known as Enhanced GPRS, or EGPRS. Refers to network bandwidth.
EGSM = Extended GSM band, i.e. 900MHz etc. Refers to the network band. Nothing to do with GPRS or EGPRS.
Make sense?

i do know that, mate. but the confusion isn't about definition, the confusion is about whether the e65 has EDGE or not? an E below the signal bar? 'high speed GSM' in the connection settings menu? sounds like a pretty good indication of EDGE to me. point is why is it never mentioned in the specifications list anywhere? |

if you get an 'E' below the signal bar, that means you're connected on EDGE.
and it does mention it in the phone specs on nokia.com:
http://europe.nokia.com/A4344228
if you open the 'Data transfer' listing, it says:
"EGPRS multi-slot class 32 for 5 + 3 (receive + transmit) timeslots (up to 6 timeslots total for maximum download speeds of up to 296 kbps)" |

Hi boba, yes i know that operators set an mms size limit, but it's also true that phone manufacturers often (if not always) set such a limit too within the phone itself. For example in my K610 it's 300kb, and in the old K700 it's 100kb as i remember... See my phone company allows >300kb mms sizes and so if i'll get an E50 i wanna know if i'll be able to take the most advantage of the size allowed |

then imo 300 kb is the limit

ah, thanks a bunch for clearing that up, bondizi. looks like i was looking in the wrong places all this time. but still, how come nokia never emphasized on the presence of EDGE in the e65...anyone? i would think that EDGE is quite a good addition to the phone, with some regions not yet supporting 3G.
only thing left to do now is to try get my operator to give out some settings. thing is, they do have an EDGE network but for some reason, they don't implement it. weird. |
