the transistor size and the supply voltage will be the same regardless the screen resolution because, nowadays, everybody is using the minimum transistor length. These transistors are powered in general by the same supply voltage, perhaps 0.9V hence consuming similar amount of energy.
even though the transistor is switched off, they still consume static power. All the power optimization will be applied to every display in the similar fashion. Given all the other parameters constant among different resolutions, the higher resolution will definitely consume more power.

Well not really. The image may be static but the pixels are still being refreshed constantly, even if the pixels are displaying the same colours. That's how I understand it.
However, the Z3 and Compact caches static images on the display, which avoids the need for refreshing. This is how they attain their two day battery life.
Isn't the new Japanese Xperia A4 brandishing a whopping three-day battery life? I can see this coming to the Z5C. Hopefully.
if that's the case, then Z3's static cache wouldn't have matter. cache is one thing, refreshing pixels is another thing. I don't think current LCD need to refresh even if not required. that would drain battery like hell

if you want to keep the same refreshing rate on higher resolutions, who's gonna do the work? CPU or GPU or whatever controlling logic will need to work faster or harder to do that. someone has to control all of those transistors. the way to save power is to reduce the required supply voltage, but then you have to worry about external electric fields if the required supply voltage is too low. there lots of tradeoffs, each with its own pros and cons
looks like nodar is famous there as well

It is not really about the display size that is a turn off in a phablet (at least for me and supposedly most people) but the height dimention and for the z ultra also the compromized spec, mostly the inferior camera sensor and no flash for that time. anything more then 165mm (t2 ultra, c5 ultra) is just too damn big for all day smartphone use in the pocket and even that height may pose a bit of challenge. if it is 5.7" and above then i do not care which display size it is as long as the length is kept in check. 6.2" is a bad combination with the common omnibalance design. 5.7-6" is a good combination with the common omnibalance design. by common omnibalance design i mean relatively big top and bottom bezel. with that said, even if the next ultra has 5.5" but with top flag spec, no compromise in camera sensor, etc. then i will still consider buying it because i like the other things sony is doing in xperia phones. it is not all about the display size. |

From the Z3 quick reference guide:
"The memory caches screen information of static images, reducing the need to constantly refresh the display. In doing so it saves on battery life, allowing Sony’s brightest screen yet to also be its most efficient"

All this IMX300 talk yet nothing that proves it exists.
A lot of conflicting rumours coming from Weibo.
I think the Imx300 is bullshit.
I'll wait for Vizileaks to leak something credible about camera hopefully, seems like the only person who definitely knows their stuff. |

A lot of conflicting rumours from Weibo because like twitter it is any man's voice and with nearly 200 million active users, not everyone can be right.
Compare that to esato with at most 5 people in the know (at least openly) and even those few are sometimes wrong.

Is the Z5 Compact getting a 720p display like 90% confirmed? I don't think when M5 is getting a 1080p Z5C will have 720p. M5 is 5" btw. |

there could be another sony phone has 5,5 screen , i think it should be s70+ or c4 when i saw first but it isnt c4 obviously.(c4:cosmos, this phone have gina code and c4 already released on may) , price point conflict with s70+ , i doubt it will have this specs though. |

@blackzeros
S70+ device is only listed twice on zauba: https://www.zauba.com/import-test-phone-s70-hs-code.html and has much higher price value then what is listed in "55 screen apac" search.
S70+ is mentioned by xperiablog and vizileaks to be a z5 device... they just don't know its identity, z5 ultra or a more premium z5.
@thetube
Most likely 720p because sony can reason it for z3c 4.6" size device while m5 has 5" and longer battery life, etc. plus, mid range spec is sometimes superior to the flag spec in curtain features, take for example c5 ultra large front camera and flash. non of z5 devices will have these 2 features. |

So far the only IMX3xx sensor is a the 377, and while it is 1/2.3, it is only 12MP and slated only for digital cameras and not mobile. Yes the unit cell size is larger, at 1.5um vs 1.15 but from what I can tell in the specs, there is no phase detection AF and it is an Exmor R, not RS. Still it can do 4k2k @ 60fps, 1080p @ 120fps and 720p @300fps.
From what I can tell, most if not all Sony mobile sensors were/are either IMX1xx or IMX2xx and for now sony has no new senors up on their site except the IMX278 which is 13MP and probably the units in the M5 and C5U. |

@nodarsixar
They did not mention a launch date. they only said that "sony is aiming for christmas z5+". afaic this means that they want to have enough z5+ devices on the market by christmas (25th of december) but for that to happen it should launch with z5 and z5c worldwide in october-november since they are announcing all at 2th of september.
@ascariss
On weibo they mention 23mp camera sensor but i can't find any sony announcement of a 23mp sensor... |
